Bah all these talks about nukes etc is such a waste of time. if anything they might be able to make a dirty bomb but the fallout from a dirty bomb will be minimal...

Be realistic though. How many freedoms do you think you'll lose that will actually effect you in a negative way? I always hear this "taking away or freedom" talk. I have yet to find myself censored or restricted in anyway, and I doubt I will see this ever happen.

Just look at Iraq. Iraq is not a "regular" war. You don't have an enemy force dug down in the desert somewhere that you can blow up with a missile shot from 100 miles away.
There you have suicide bombers, snipers and rebels hiding in houses. They are willing to fight eye to eye and die for their cause. Is the US army willing to fight on those terms?

Thinking that terrorists are stupid is the same mistake that a lot of world leaders have made to their cost over the years. Simplicity is better. The more complex a system is, the greater likelihood of failure of that system... in the case of a bomb, the more complex it is, the greater likelihood of it failing and blowing the snot out of YOU.

IEDs are effective precisely because they're so simple. Small, powerful, and anyone with basic chemistry and electronics skills can put one together with a reasonable expectation of survival and resonable expectation of causing casualties.

2KT nuke is a very small nuke, Hiroshima (little boy) was 13KT. Shockwave, heat and initial radiation would be leathal at tops 200 yards from blast. Fallout would depend on alot of factors, but you would be safe at 50miles. Only about 10% of the blast energy ends up as residual radiation. I'd say tops 20k dead if detonated in regular populated area, but possibly higher at city centers. Nukes are pretty easy to detect with sensors thou.

I'm more concerned they will use bio weapons, Pneumonic plauge at major airport hubs would be pretty nasty.

so far as nuke's go, the best offensive move terrorists could make would be do detonate one in either the west coast, or denver, and let the weather patterns carry the fallout as far as it would go and destroy what they can of the agriculture market. you want worldwide catastrophe, thats it.
