SEO question regarding high PR linkdumps

Hi,

I know that blanket spamming of linkdumps can get you flagged with Google however many linkdumps have very high PR. If you submit only to the high PR dumps will you still get flagged because of the nature of the sites or will the high PR help with marketing?

this is a quote from the now closed Google blog
http://www.xxxwebmasters.com/content/view/14/1/

in other words; dont do it.
you can get to Google PR 4 in no time, but the rest is patience and a lot of content related backlinks...

try to cheat, and the SE will bite back

Thanks for the heads up.

I guess i'll just have to use them for throwaway domains with no outbounds to my other sites. The volume and quality of the traffic is surprisingly decent and incredibly easy to generate.

Once again I appreciate the advice before i went ahead and got my prime sites flagged....

Linking to/from 'bad neighbourhoods' can hurt your standing with G.

Generally sites linking to you are not supposed to be able to hurt you, but in reality they can.

Short-term high PR is not worth getting 'sandboxed' for life.

Some times that fast easy money is not nearly as much as from the long term.

in summary, getting linked from all high PR sites can hurt more than it helps

Google looks at sites that link to you and if there is any unnatural and abnormal pattern, among many other factors.

If you have 10 inbound links and they are all from PR5+ sites, that is an example of an "unnatural" linking pattern. A natural pattern would be a variety of links from a wide range of PR sites.

So, if you submit your site to only high PR link dumps you may get flagged as having an abnormal pattern.

*Legitimate* links from ANY (non-bad neighbourhood) PR site are always good.

If you're not sure, just remember what the SE algo is (theoretically) trying to achieve - they want to connect the searcher with the best answer to their query (aside from their PPC ad program agenda).

Is the site linking to you one that surfers will find of genuine value and does not seem have bad SEO habits or to point to any bad players?

BTW, the net value of 'PR' has changed quite a bit since it's inception (many say it's a meaningless number now although SERPs do seem to align with it in a causal way).

There are many sites/pages getting lots of traffic (which converts very well) from G on lower PR (like 1) pages.

Don't get wrapped up with chasing PR or you'll end up with flat noses like those dogs that chase parked cars.
