Free software for cutting and re-encoding AVI's?
What do you use? Not looking to spend money on a fancy program. Just need the basic mark in, markout, encode in lower res features.

VirtualDub, AVISynth always worked for me, but admittedly I never did anything professionally... just hobby stuff.
oh, and TMPGENC for mpeg stuff. Doom9 is the place to go to find out all you'll ever need to know, really.
