The Secret Patriot Act II Destroys What Is Left of American Liberty

The Secret Patriot Act II Destroys What Is Left of American Liberty

The Domestic Security Enhancement Act 2003, Also Known as Patriot Act II

Congressman Ron Paul (R-Tex) told the Washington Times that no member of Congress was allowed to read the first Patriot Act that was passed by the House on October 27, 2001. The first Patriot Act was universally decried by civil libertarians and Constitutional scholars from across the political spectrum. William Safire, while writing for the New York Times, described the first Patriot Act's powers by saying that President Bush was seizing dictatorial control.

On February 7, 2003 the Center for Public Integrity, a non-partisan public interest think-tank in DC, revealed the full text of the Domestic Secur ...

Hmm. Just how many people's rights have been abused under the existing Patriot Act? last I heard, ACLU couldn't point to a single case. Is this true?

Last you heard, from who? FOX News?

Myth: ?Underthe Patriot Act, I?m very confident in saying there have been no abuses found.? [1]

Reality: The Patriot Act has been abused. The ACLU detailed these abuses in a 10-page letter to Senator Dianne Feinstein, dated April 4, 2005.

* Brandon Mayfield is a Portland, Oregon resident who is a convert to Islam and an attorney. Mayfield was wrongly accused by the government of involvement in the Madrid bombing as a result of evidence, including mistaken fingerprint identification, that fell apart after the FBI re-examined its case following its arrest and detention on Mayfield on a material witness warrant. Attorney General Gonzales acknowledged before the Senate Judiciary Committee that Section 218 of the Patriot Act was implicated in the secret search of Mayfield?s house. FBI admitted that it entered Mayfield?s house without a warrant based on criminal probable cause and copied four computer drives, digitally photographed sever documents, seized ten DNA samples and took approximately 335 digital photographs of Brandon Mayfield?s home.

* Tariq Ramadan is regarded by many as Europe?s leading moderate Muslim intellectuals. Time Magazine named Ramadan among the Top 100 Innovators of the 21st Century. The government revoked Ramadan?s visa to teach at the University of Notre Dame under Section 411 of the Patriot Act, which permits the government to exclude non-citizens from the country if in the government?s view they have ?used [their] position of prominence to endorse or espouse terrorist activity or to persuade others to support terrorist activity.? Consequently, an individual who discusses politics that a terrorist organization may adopt as its own viewpoints may be excluded from the United States, even if the individual does not support terrorist activity. As such, the government can essentially use this provision to deny admission to those whose political views it disfavors. There is no doubt that Ramadan uses his position of prominence to espouse his political beliefs. Notably, Ramadan, who denounces the use of violence in the name of Islam, had already been granted a visa after undergoing an extensive security clearance process and had previously been permitted to enter the country on numerous

A number of other examples are also listed in the ACLU?s letter. The Justice Department largely confirmed the substance of these examples in its response to the ACLU letter, dated April 26, 2005, while denying that the examples listed were ?abuses.? The Office of Inspector General of the Department of Justice is actively investigating the Brandon Mayfield case.

The extent of Patriot Act abuse is still unknown because of excessive secrecy enshrouding its use. For example, both special document FBI document snoop orders, called ?national security letters,? (expanded by section 505 of the Patriot Act) and Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) document orders (expanded by section 215 of the Act), include permanent ?gag? provisions. These automatic secrecy orders prohibit recipients from telling anyone they have received the order or letter to produce documents that include their customers? private information.

Stop being born with a Muslim last name and you won't have any problems.
Try "Bob Redding" you will never be abused.

Problem solved.

hahahaha, so your evidence about the patriot act abusing rights is a guy who was mistakenly identified and then cleared because of a bad fingerprint match and another clown who had his visa revoked.

Nope. You can't be funny if 12 clicks is here.

The Patriot Act turns our government into a black hat hacker. Just as easily as Bush took matters into his own hands and approved John Bolton for the UN, he can do the same when it comes to digging into our privacy and violating our First Amendment rights with this stupid ass Patriot Act.

Man my step mom lives in AZ near the Mexico border, the border patrol came to her house claiming to be looking for immigrants and just walked in. She asked them if they had a warrant to come in and they claimed that they were homeland security and just pushed her out of the way. She doesn't do anything wrong so she didn't get in any trouble but what the fuck. That is such bull shit, they can just walk into your home for no reason at all and claim it to be homeland security.

Homeland security is used in all forms and flavors... In 1938, they were called " black shirts "

Quote:
Homeland Security arrests almost 600 gang members

WASHINGTON (AP) ? Federal authorities arrested 582 alleged gang members over a two-week period, officials said Monday, targeting an estimated 80 violent groups they say have spawned street crimes across the country.

Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff called the gangs "a threat to our homeland security and ... a very urgent law enforcement priority."

And don't forget: if you do not pay or evade your taxes, you are a threat to the security of the USA; Homeland Security will throw your stinking porn ass in the cell ....

but seriously, i dont think thats what we have to worry about either.. So a guy's house got searched that was innocent , it's not like they didn't have our best interest in mind. They thought this guy was a terrorist and acted.. Its what we don't know that worries me..

Example.. A major campaign contributer needs confidential wiretaps of its competition. Promises double the contribution to get it. Simple business.. Doesn't help the public any , but it certainly helps someone

"FBI spokesman Jim Stern confirmed Monday that the U.S. Patriot Act was used to obtain financial information in the political corruption investigation.

"A section of the Patriot Act was used appropriately by the FBI and clearly within the legal parameters of the statute," Stern told the Sun."

hmmm.... political corruption investigation... terrorism... I'm having trouble here, folks, could somebody point out the connection?

Also, just out of curiousity, how would "abuse" be defined in this context?

Strange... once I posted a clear abuse of the Patriot Act, all of the neocons who were patting each other on the ass and slapping hi-fives suddenly disappeared. Its weird how that always happens.

but seriously, they never used fingerprints until the patriot act. They never misread a fingerprint before the patriot act.
The patriot act has a section about fingerprints?

go research the case.

you children are so afraid because of what your liberal leaders have been spewing that you are now defending criminals in your condemnation of the patriot act.
my guess is that the patriot act was used to follow the money trail and obtain records.
MY GOD! our rights were trampled on!
