ROFLMAO

KB

I hear your feelings and I for one am not excited to think of a Business to Business show turning into a surfer show. Vegas is already crowded enough and hard enough to determine who in the industry and who is not.

In my opinion the reason the show has been moved to these dates is simple. All convention centers will give you free space if you rent a XXX number of rooms. They have a formula for high times and low times. CES convention is earlier this year than ever. There was no way for them to hold Internext in the few days before CES ( The Cheapest time of the Year). If they were to wait till after CES they would probably not have enough rooms due to the higher price of the Venetian Room Suites.

Personally I want AVN to succeed. I want to be able to show up to an event or send my sales staff and return with new business and good will for existing clients. All I ask for in return is that they listen to what the INTERNET COMMUNITY wants in a show.

GFY is a perfect example of what can happen when you forget to listen to your Clients. (Ynot, Netpond, Oprano ). All were once on Top and now look at them

HEAR IS WHY AVN NEEDS TO LISTEN
AVN may feel that there is no way to stop their show. They are dead wrong about this. The way you do it is to put a show on at the same time at a different hotel. The only difference is that it is FREE. The meeting center space would be free with XXX number of rooms reserved. The parties will go on no matter which show is going and the attendees will all be in town. AVN would be stuck with a huge hotel/meeting room space if no one showed up for their show and as a result GAME OVER.

KB before you go and get too excited. I am NOT going to do this. I want to support AVN and try to help them realize that the INTERNET side is IMPORTANT to their future. We need to stand together and try and make this the best show at a fair price for everyone if they are willing to Listen.

If Not there goes a Multi Million Dollar a Year business.

Time will tell the story

Well Time to pack I am off to FL in the morning

the decision is already made so good luck with it... i always liked the 2 shows separate. they are VERY different in focus & activity. the purpose is networking right? there are no advantages to adding fans & surfers to that equation.

i think it's unfortunate they are having both shows together, not to mention CES is in town the same week

Vegas is now the last place i will want to be in early January...

they really need to move the Detroit auto show there the same week for the grand slam of madness... crazy

I completely agree. We're making efforts to keep them out of the Internext show floor... but they will be wandering around the rest of the venue.

Today's Deep Thought: Strictly by design, Summer Internext now has fewer fans & surfers wandering around than ever... and Winter has more... hmmmmm.

Now you're gonna see a ton of surfers mixed into the show floor. How do you know who to hand out passes to? You will offend lot's of smaller webmasters because now you have to screen each person and make sure they're all legit first. Extra time dealing with screening people, lot's of wasting time in my opinion.

Invite only parties will be the "in" thing and most of the industry won't be able to attend one legit webmaster party without having surfers to walk through.

Looking to throw a party? Food for thought.
Very valid point!

A few observations...

I've been to both shows. AEE is the much bigger production. At a small fraction of the ticket price (I think I paid $40 for the last AEE that I attended, and $150 for Internext), AEE way outdraws InterNext in number of attendees.

IMHO you can conduct the same amount of business on both floors.

While the surfers ogle the multitude of models, webmasters can meet one-on-one with the players hosting the AEE booths, and vice versa.

Now consider this, it is far cheaper for AVN to book overlapping show halls and cut an even better deal with the Venetian for rooms for one concentrated period (after playing their "we'll switch to the Manadalay Bay" card from last year), than it would cost to run the shows consecutively - so therefore it's a win-win proposition...for AVN...although NOT necessarily so for the Exhibitors of either segment of the adult industry.

If you accept the premise that the surfers/public could give a shit about meeting with company honchos, then it is easy to see that both shows could be easily combined which could benefit both the video and internet businesses (and lower ticket prices to InterNext while exposing the web businesses to more surfers).

When has it ever hurt a web business to have more surfers come into contact with your business? Likewise, how does it hurt either the predominantly web or video companies from having an opportunity to learn more about one another?

My proposal...Merge the two shows. Hire eye candy to keep the surfers occupied and have plenty of biz cards printed for your marketing/biz people to interact and/or make strategic contacts with other marketing/biz people. A hospitality suite in the same hotel where all the action is would be a good idea as well.

This isn't rocket surgery...

My ,

In case this part has been missed - part of the CES convention/show will also be at the Sands Expo - they also run at the convention center but a huge slice of the exhibitions will be located at the same place as us - so if you are really planning on attending - I would make sure that you already have rooms - as the CES will eat a shitload of hotel rooms and from what ive already seen hotels are very aware of the 3 shows at the same time and prices have skyrocketed at all hotels.

I'm glad Ron realizes this is a trade show and not his daughters wedding. The rest of you people need to lighten up. You don't like it, don't go. How many of you still need shows to do business? If you've been around more than a couple of years and you have to have them, you're doing something wrong.

This has to be the worst thing AVN has done so far, tell me how the hell im going to be able to be at 2 shows at once???? This sucks big time and i think its time for Lens or one of the other smaller show producers to step up and start a new show for the industry by the industry not these money hungry AVN fuckers. Im mad as hell since now my staff will have to be running back and forth between both shows. AVN you better wake up or you will lose everything your mag has worked for, its just a matter of time before Klixx becomes the dominant online adult mag and no one advertises in yours anymore.

Wake up AVN we run this industry NOT YOU!!!

what will make us all happy, if you get all the porn producers and all the porn stars in 1 room, and invite all the webmasters over at avn, and have them say thank you for all the traffic we send in making them money over the years, cause without us, they would be 0.

that would be gold.

just a thank you.

I agree with Jim.

Really stupid idea- I don't even believe this is the true reason.

Why would they not want 2 separate shows, more hotel room revenue, more booths, etc?

I quit attending the Vegas shows years ago after consecutive years of no ROI when compared to Phoenix Forum, WA's, and regional gatherings, hell even the summer internext performs much better than the Vegas shows - bad time of year and too many distractions to keep webmasters together and networking in areas where you can actually hear one another. So this doesn't really affect me either way, gave up on this one long ago.

How will we all get traffic to our respective sites when the surfers find out what we all are really like?

Yes, as I've said before... some genius always plans Internext during the same dates as the CES show, then people wonder why hotels are filled and rooms are so expensive.

I agree completely that CES is the biggest problem, do you people not remember the last day / the day after previous internexts in vegas the mobs of people there for CES, how hard it is to get a cab / limo or anything else for that matter.

AEE is scheduled around CES because a huge number of AEE badges are sold to CES attendees. To move it would hurt the show for the exhibitors. Now... if AEE exhibitors and business attendees do bring more business to Internext exhibitors (which is the theory) then Internext will most likely stay running at the same time as AEE. So, (in theory,) we're stuck with this for a while.

Again... my personal, objective response...? PLEASE BRING VALIUM!

You gotta wonder why every AVN thread turns into a drama thread.

As someone who for the past two years worked both shows.

I can tell you that this is a blessing in disguise!!!

When I go to these shows most of the time I have a list of people that I want to meet and set up to meet those people before I go whether it be for a lunch, at a party at night, or even at a booth. Last year with the two halls across town from each other I spent half my day in Cabs going back and forth getting to meeting and booth set up on opposite ends of town.

As far as the surfers running around Internext. I highly doubt you are going to get that many surfers who are going to shell out 150 bucks to walk around Internext when they can spend 40 and go see all the pornstars and get free DVDs and shit.

One other reason I am happy about this is Booth set up. With the 1st of the year getting closer and closer to the beginning of Internext it was getting to the point that it was going to be impossible to do anything but be in Vegas for the New Year.

So I for one am happy that this is going to work out this way. Less time in Vegas for me. 9 days to start off the year put me in a bad mood for months!

So for all of you who are quick to put AVN down for this decision. I think if you take a little time and prepare well for this new format you will see that it will work out to your benefit. Just be prepare beforehand and you will walk away happy!

Good Job Aly

Both personal and business thoughts.

How does CES help AEE?

CES attendees pay for badges to attend AEE.

For those few companies who have previously exhibited at both shows (and now face a logistical challenge) I encourage you to pick one show over the other for your exhibit, if you can. This isn?t about forcing people to rent and staff two booths. It will be challenging? I agree.
That will really suck for those "few". I wonder if anyone has a count on how many there are that exhibit at both shows?
