With all the talk about the FTC etc. and other things going on in the US, nobody has mentioned this. The Ontario Consumer Protection Act comes into force July 30, 2005, which is today, and has several provisions in it regarding Internet transactions. How many Canadian companies are compliant?
Violations of the act can include fines and jail time:
"An individual who is convicted of an offence under this Act is liable to a fine of not more than $50,000 or to imprisonment for a term of not more than two years less a day, or both, and a corporation that is convicted of an offence under this Act is liable to a fine of not more than $250,000."
