God, I love smart boys. There was a Jewish guy who lived under me in college and he was a chemistry major. He was pretty much border-line nerd, but he was super smart and I was diggin' him. I used to pretend like I didn't know what I was doing with my homework so I could ask him to come up and help me. He never asked me out, though. :(

I'm a sociology student in Israel. there are a lot of them here, and this is my take on the subject:
the european jews who came to the US on the 20's all settled in prosperus locations. they worked very hard as not-qualified workers cause they believed in 'the dream'.
later on, when they had enough dough, the economic system took care of the rest.
if you have money, the us is the #1 place in the world for doubling the ammount in the shortest time. the capitalist adminastrations all support low taxes, private schooling, low fed. investments.
this is why in america the richer are always getting richer and the poorer are having a big problem(in general) more than other places in the west.

it's simply the system. nothing genetic that's for sure.

some jews say it's because we have 1000 years of literacy and it improves something. i dont fall for it.
in eastern europe most jews were low-profession, not educated at all and living in small primitive villages. so a lot of the myth refers actually to the US and western europe.

there are more reasons, but the economic system seems the most reasonable to me.

This is a bullshit generalization, like all generalizations. Jews are no smarter inherently than any other religion or ethnic group. My personal experience and believe has to do with the value/belief system Jews share. We place a very high value and priority on family, education, hard work and being smart with money. I think these, more than any other factor lead to the successes of Jews. Remember, it wasn't that long ago that the Jews were the immigrants who had to learn to assimilate to a new land. Most of the success has been built in two or three generations. Not old money.

I have to agree that could be part of it. Any group that clings to those values will do well. Also, I believe the divorce rate is pretty low in Jewish households but I'm not totally sure on that. Having good solid relationships with both parents also contribute to potential for great success in this world...or at least that's something I can buy off on for various reasons.

I think a lot of it has to do with the thousands of years of persecution the Jewish people have been forced to endure. Like the saying goes, what doesn't kill you, makes you stronger.

When the Jews immigrated here in mass numbers as a means of survival, each generation worked to make sure the next generation was better off. They strived to assymilate and make a place for themselves and their families in their new country. :2 cents:

Me being one, I can tell you that we place a lot of value in education etc. No matter what anyone says about college, knowledge is wealth.

Famous jews in my family include my grandmothers brother who was a famous psychiartrist. Her other brother is a VP a Faygo, and I beleive her father worked developing the TB test.
