I send most of my traffic to 3 well known sponsors and
over the years have tried alot. I test them for a few weeks
if they dont convert I find another.

19 sounds like a good number to me, but I guess it all depends on how you are promoting them and how much you make from each sponsor, if you don't make many sales it will take ages before you recieves checks from all of them.
I have 40 active sponsors myself, mainly FHG sponsors for my TGPs, most of them are CCBill sponsors merged under one CCBill account so it's still easy to keep track on sales and payments.
The most important thing is not to keep all you eggs in one basket, if one sponsor suddenly turns to shit or quits you better have something to replace them with.Comment

I promote about 10 programs actively and several hundreds passively. My 10 main sponsors make about 80% of the cash, while the others are just there all over my sites and produce signups once in awhile. It does not hurt me, not to kick them out

well, i fuck around with different sites all the time, im always trying to see whats converting good this month, next month, etc so i'll throw out a hosted gallery (or custom made gallery) to the TGP's and see whats up. and about 2 months later, i can tell from SE traffic if its worth the trouble or not.
i only promote 4 sponsors (heavily). 1 pps, 1 revshare & wegcash join4free (and MensNiche on all my freesites).
