Simpson shellshocked: Jessica Simpson is speaking out about the shocking conditions she witnessed in Iraq earlier this year, while producing an ABC variety special with her husband, Nick Lachey. Though crews filmed some "harrowing footage" and "controversial moments," the edited version of the ABC show retained little evidence of the harsh reality facing Iraqi citizens and soldiers. What is Simpson's response to the network's whitewashing? "It's unbelievable. They didn't show a lot of what really went on with the enemy attacks and the shelling. Somehow the tapes got mysteriously misplaced." Simpson is convinced seeing the missing tapes would do the American public some good. "[Witnessing that] put everything in perspective for me. It really did teach me the definition of sacrifice. I can't even fathom being out there right now. I was ready to come home."

It was an entertainment show , a "variety show",and not some documentary on the perils and tragedy of war.

10x? On networks like Fox I'd say closer to 100 times. That Greta Von what's her face who comes on after O'Rielly talks about nothing but that one case. It's not ABC's responsibility to air footage about the horrors of war during a "variety show."

do you understand what a variety show is?

It's where people sing, dance and tell horrible jokes...think back to Bob Hope.

It's not in ABC's best interest to have some family entertainment hour showing suicide bombings, or soldiers on stretchers or better yet in caskets draped with a flag...that's for the news..not a song and dance show.

Great movie. This is exactly what ABC did recently to RFK Jr.'s story about the vaccines we used to use and currently ship to poor countries containing mercury and being responsible for all kinds of mental diseases. The potential liability for the companies that make the vaccines is in the trillions, so no mainstream "news" network is giving the story any attention. It's the clearest example of a whitewash I've seen in recent history, this should be a major story. Anyone with a disabled friend or relative should care about this.
