patriot act voted to be renewed...thanks london

"Republicans repeatedly argued throughout the 11-hour debate that the latest explosions in London showed how urgent and important it was to renew the law."

Interesting how an explosion that hurt NO ONE, happened right before a controversial package of personal freedom stripping, privancy invading laws were to be voted on in congress.

Hmmmmmm

I bet this was a phone in from bush to blair.....

"Hey Blair...do me a solid"

You can never have too many patriot act threads. Let me say again that the US has ALREADY used the Patriot Act to go after a STRIP CLUB OWNER. *insert brave new world cliche*

Nahh Karl Rove just plugged it to his buddies over in Scotland Yard - no reason to involve Bush and Blair to really complicate things

What like rendition?

Where they can grab you out of your home without hearing or trial or access to a lawyer, fly you to syria or lebanon & have you tortured for information?

I dunno...sounds reasonable to me.

The bomber likely wore that New York sweatshirt to send a message that an attack is likely coming to NYC very shortly ... why else would the NYC Police suddenly start, for the first time ever, random searches on the subways just today.

The terrorists have long since won in the aspect of Americans, along with folks globally in various other countries - ie. UK, losing (more aply, most hapily relinquishing their rights) more and more their rights daily.

Terrorism isn't new - the only real response quite really is to go after those who did the acts and move on... no level of security will make much difference ... London has more cameras than about anywhere else in the world, and yet they've been bombed TWICE in the past two weeks ... so much for cameras and all that other feel-good security...

NYC has experienced numerous "terror" attacks way before 911 and yet life went on with minimal disruption ... ie. there was a bombing on Wall Street in 1920 ...
yep, you read that correctly ... it's well documented ...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wall_Street_bombing

Oh, and yes, while on the topic of bombs, when and where was the worst school bombing in the U.S.? ... most folks would guess Columbine, but they'd be very wrong ... here again, the 1920s were a violent time ... Bath School Disaster in 1927 - dynamite was planted underneath the school and killed 45 ... 3X the number killed at Columbine.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bath_School_Disaster

Point is that giving up one's rights isn't going to stop terror, but mostly only help make the government more powerful and oppressive ... to digress again, many folks point to airline security as being sucessful - don't be so sure ... yes, all that security raises the bar a bit for a passager(s) bent on destruction, but won't stop them all - and worse, too much security itself becomes a weakness; there are numerous incidents of rogue people within security forces killing/destroying who/what they were supposed to protect.

Everyone, even the "terrorists", depends on China... and like most folks, are probably are very happy with the prices Chinese manufactures charge for goods.

Seriously though, one shouldn't dismiss the importance of that person wearing a New York sweatshirt - the NYC authorities very likely are taking it seriously ... would certainly explain why only today they started random searches on subways while nearby cities, such as Philadelphia, have not - in fact, officials in Philadelphia have publicly stated they have no plans to.
