Patriot Act 2
Not sure if you guys talked about this already but the government is trying to pass Patriot Act II. Basically saying that goventment officials (police as well) can run up in your house at any time for any reason, with no probable cause. They can tap for your phone and monitor your day to day life, with no probable cause. Today they are discussing putting an expiration date on the bill instead of making it permanent.
Check It Out. As time passes we will have less and less privacy. |

Honestly fuck safety if it impacts on our freedom.
Safety is just an illusion anyways, and sadly our freedom is becoming more of one itself every day.

They shouldnt be able to listen in whenever they wanted. What I do in the privacy of my house should stay private. I hope that shit never passes. Our "freedom" is slowly dying.

Check section 802 of the first one, it makes us all terrorists.
For any tard claiming you have nothing to worry about if your not doing anything wrong, that doesn't pass the giggle test. Try reading some news, the abuses have been rampant. |

In Cuba, if you put your cofee cup on the face of Fidel Castro on the morning paper, you can go to jail ...
When Stalin was in power, he killed so many of his people ... everybody was scared of everybody else . Is that what you guys want to happen ? A regime of terror ? That's where it's slowly heading ... Just look at the "emergency" systems on cars . My father got one on his new ride, and he bitches everytime he hits it by accident... that's about the only use for canadians ... and some other people couldn't have a car without it nowdays because they are scared of their own shadows... Do americans really think the "terror level" have ANYTHING at all to do with reality ? Why should people know ? |

Most laws start out noble but end up being abused. Look at history.
The partiot act was made evil, and was just taken to the next level. Its intentions were never to protect americans, it was to monitor and police them. I'm telling you, Americans now live in a police state. It's not a democracy. |

Fuck privacy? Some of the people on this board are totally clueless. Fuck safety. How many people have died for the freedoms we have? Now you idiots are willing to give it away because you let the media scare you. Fucking pathetic. A handful of you would defend absolutely any action taken by this government, and that is seriously scary. Stop listening to Brittany Spears, children.

That is what I would have expected from a fascist dictator, such as Mussolini or Hitler, not from a 'free' society. (I thought it was all about evolving to something better, not regressing to the problems of the past.)
It is not about whether or not you have something to hide, it is about your supposed given rights or constitutional rights (such as privacy) ... or is that piece of paper only wiped-out when the government threatens the porn industry. ... and people are worried about someone (aside from a letter carrier) placing something in their mailbox. |

Since I ranted about this elsewhere here I wont go into the full diatribe - but put simply - we do not live in a democracy - there was never any intention for the Union of States to be a democracy - it is a republic (check the wording of the pledge of allegiance since I assume most here at least went to elementry school) In a republic you are governed by the will of the leadership wheras in a democracy you are governed by the will of the people - completely different beasts.
As far as freedoms that you will give up in the new Patriot Act - if you subscribe to them then you would no longer be a patriotic American citizen in my book - you have just given away every freedom I spent 12 years in the military for - guess I wasted my time - I guess my friends wasted their lives as well. Of course this all assumes you were a patriotic American in the first place and performed your civil duties to vote for the people that govern you - if not - again I wouldnt give you the time of day to complain about any part of this or the loss of your freedoms. My opinion of course - but then I guess I'm allowed to have one since I do vote and take part in the "political governmental process" |

I don't understand people who say "its not safe anymore!" These people could've been blowing shit up any time they wanted since their births, they JUST started and only now all our safety is gone? Ya it's more dangerous cause of them doing it, but don't act like they couldn't have done it in the past.
And as for Bush and his excuse of a career; welcome the Fourth Reich |

Yep - ole Ben was a smart one - followed closely by Thomas Paine - of course TP had a little problem after wrote his little pamphlet - it worked great in the colonies - but the British were not real fond of him when he showed up over in Great Britain

do you kids never look around at who's in these threads agreeing with you?
its the idiots, the surfers, and the kids living with mommy. do you never open your eyes and say, "shit, if these losers agree with me, maybe I should take a second look at my position" you never do, and thats why life will continue to suck for you.

Eventually the US citizens were allowed to leave - if - they enrolled in the US Army - 1200 of them did this. Two of the American citizens brought court cases that went to the Supreme Court - both were decided in favor of the US government. Finally in late 1944 the people were allowed to leave the camps and they were closed in 1945. After that about 5000 of our citizens renounced their citizenship. The rest were offered no reparations until 1968 when congress tried to help them regain their houses that they owned. Finally in 1988, the still living citizens were given $20,000 each to pay them back. Canada followed suit giving each of its citizens that had been interred $21,000 (the ones that were still alive anyway) The part that always gets left out of this story is that among those 120000 people put in the camps, there were also thousands of American citizens of European, German and italian descent that were "labelled" enemy aliens - even though they were not recent immagrants and were full American citizens - those thousands were never even apologized to and still havent been till this day. Now lets come forward to today - yesterday the US House of Representatives passed the Patriot Act by a vote of 257-171 - and here's the kicker - they voted to keep 14 of the 16 provisions permanantly - no expiration except for the two provisions that were about privacy freedoms - those two were only extended for 10 years |
