:mad Need ICQ help BAD!

I cannot get my ICQ to connect at all. It opens up and the yellow flower appears stating it is trying to connect. I have 2003a and I like that one a lot. So will someone please help me?

I saw a thread a few weks ago about someone asking for the same thing but it was for 2003b and someone gave him instructions on what settings to change to get it to connect. Maybe that will work on 2003a but I do not know what the name of the thread was nor the person who started the thread.

Someone please help me!

Go to Main -> Preferences -> Connections, click the Server tab. Leave host as login.icq.com and below set the port to 443. For Proxy settings, check Using Firewall and below check Using proxy and choose HTTP. Below that check Keep connection alive.

Taken from old post.

Try to connect to ICQ using http://go.icq.com/
If that works then its not your connection.
If that doesn't work, its probably you have too many people on your icq list problem or something else.

Hi Loryn,

Delete some history, icq has a limit on the amount you can save, and starts acting up with it reaches a certain amount

Well it works on my laptop not on my desk top. So I have to carry my laptop with me everyday just to use ICQ. I would like to use just one computer.

Hey girl!

That could be it. My desk top might be tapped out! Damn it I hate deleting history. You never know if someone is going to try to screw you over and when you don't have history to slam them shut you just have to take it in the bum!

I more or less had the same problem last week (I could log on from one system but not another).

I simply:
- first installed ICQ5
- installed and ran the ICQ history converter (available from icq.com)
all is now good and nothing was lost.

Hey Loryn when I hvae this problem I do:

Main --- Preferences --- Connections --- Server - auto configure.

Close icq and open it again to get the new port.

Sometimes I try 4-5 differents ports and it works.

Goodluck

The same thing was happening to me Loryn and then one day...POOF! Someone hijacked my ICQ#!! "They/It" changed my password....my old number is online at this very moment!

People were telling me that I had too many people on my list but, then that happened. I really hope that isn't the case with you!

GOOD LUCK!

just go to the user, view history, then select all and copy.. then paste into a notepad and save it.. for some reason, using the save history option doesn't work that well.. on mine anyway.. using notepad works better

That would take a long time and plus people can say I changed my messages and stuff.

I think I will sit at my desk and cry and then pray that punching it would make it work, then cry some more. Then just live with carrying my laptop in everyday!

set yourself up with another icq number then... and anyone who thinks you're changing stuff isn't worth worrying about now are they?

I can't believe it. I am so happy, thank you! I downloaded ICQ 5 and left the old version 2003a alone on the computer. I started ICQ 5 then turned it off and turned on ICQ 2003a again and viola it works now! AMAZING! I am so happy. Thank you!

That happens to me once in a while. It will come back. I am having a huge issue with AIM - I opened it and all of my contacts are gone I don't see them coming back, it's as if someone hacked it and then deleted it....I was hoping server issue, but for days? Sucks mad balls!

I hate problems sending messages with icq 2000b all of a sudden recently and even when I uninstalled and re-installed the app it still didn't work. Until I deleted all the icq data files and reinstalled the app. I forgot to backk up my most recent version of the data files however and I lost a few months of history (which I often refer to for business) , but other than that it works great again now.
