I say "Hey" or "I want to have straight sex with you" to instigate the intitial convo, followed quickly thereafter with what it is I want.

I always get this from people I've never heard from before (all in different messages):

Hi!

How are you?

Are things going well?

What's the weather like there?

Oh that sounds nice, it's ______ here.

So, how are things going?

Really, how are they going - you can tell me.

Oh, BTW, I need some help with banners/FHG/etc.

;)

I only set away when Im in a meeting, out of the office, or overwelmed with what I already have on my plate.

I give my icq, aim & yahoo to anyone. I never ignore a single person. It takes a few sec out of my day to either say "hang on im busy at the moment", "can you send me e-mail with the details" or even "listen dude if you want me to chat dirty to you I charge my the minute and im very expensive"

So, how hard is that?...I get ignored more than Id like to admit, mostly from fellow industry peeps...funny thing about half I contact I am looking to maybe buy something from them so go figure!!!

Just say what it is you want. Say it. Spit it out, I'll get it when I get it and respond. Why do I have to be there for you to say what it is you want?

Or idiots who say "Hey" with their first message to you. Wtf is that?

"sup" <----- utterly retarded. (unless I previously contacted you, but then again if I did you would know "What's up")

"hi"...... uh yeah hi, tell me who you are and what you want already.

Yes, some things are better said when the person is on, but you can still tell them what the gist of it is instead of saying "you there?"

grrr

:D

I'm guilty of the above. But I'll just use the "hey" etc.. just to start the convo. Then like corey said , it's quickly followed by what I wanted.

I never change the status of my ICQ. It's green if I'm on the computer and away or N/A when I'm away from keyboard and red if I'm offline. I can't be bothered to change it.
I'm often "busy". (read: always).

This one's great!!!

Cory, are you talking about me? LOL

I will often get up to get a soda or something, the phone will ring and then I'm not at my computer, however my away settings do usually pop on.

Yours always goes to away. You are on 10 minutes for your timer.

I know this because I stare at your icq all day stalking.

IT'S A TEXT CHAT MEDIUM PEOPLE!!!

Type what you need, then move on and I will answer when I am around.

But usually by the time I get back to them they are no longer around and I spend a day or two to find out what they wanted.

yes, I wish people would just treat ICQ like a telephone answering machine. Short and sweet, get to the fucking point already.

And also, I still seem to lose too many damn messages with ICQ. I was just contacted again this morning by someone (thankfully) about a site problem I wasn't aware of, and his earlier message was not in my history.
