I have a dell 9200, 8100, and d600. The 8100 is a workhorse that has been going strong for 4 years with 3 operating systems. The d600 was excellent for travel and had plenty of horsepower for development. I just picked up the 9200 and I'm not completely sold on it yet - the screen looks kinda washed-out and it has trouble resizing images at 1900x1200 (or whatever it is).

Don't pick up the XPS laptop if you're not just gonna pop it on the desktop and only move it occasionally - it puts out some serious heat and it weighs roughly 50 lbs.

I've bought tons of dell's over the years, I highly recomend spending the few extra bucks and going with one of their workstations with the xeon processors. you can find them on the small business side of the site. they are faster and more stable than anything else i've used.

We have 7 Dell systems for our company. Just professional and good stuff. Also good management tools to manage the network etcetera. Just a note: I like the TFT screens.

Got a DELL laptop over here, very happy with it so far for over a year now... Centrino 1.6 and monitor is really good as you can view it clearly from all angles... but the rest are all HP/Compaq laptops.... between the two brands, i'd say HP/Compaq... purely because its thinner and more slick , comparing the same range

I've built my own computer before and I've decided it's best to buy a dell. My custom computer runs fine but it's a bit more glitchy than my dells are. The parts have been streamlined and tested to death and work well together. Less software and hardware conflicts, no random reboots, shit like that. It's worth the money!

My laptop is an inspiron 8600 with the super clear 1900x1200 screen and the centrino chip. I love it and recommend it. Long battery life, comfortable keyboard, dvd/cd burner/reader, etc.

For desktops, I usually get the standard Dimension 2400's or whatever, they're cheap and work perfect for my desktop and my whole staff's. We've only had one die out of about 60 over the last 7 years.

I have last years XPS. Best desktop I have ever owned.

It's a little noisy because it has 4 fans running, 2 for the cpu. 1 for the case and 1 on the graphics card... But other than that I can't complain. Oh and the way it opens for easy access is one of the coolest case designs I have ever seen.

Upgrade to the gig of ram and swap the main for 10k RPM drive and you're set.

I had a Dell a few years back, and it was really good. The only thing that I dont like about them, is that if you live in an out of the way area, like I do, then you have to ship the computer to Dell for repairs. And that takes time. And you have to remove all your work from it.

If you dont have that issue, make sure that you get the in office or home repair package, and you are good to go.

I've got a gen4 XPS... kicks ass.
only noise is the slight fan hum from the x850XT pe video card.. but what do you expect... but i rarely do anything to get it to rev up to ludicrous level. so it's tolerable.
other than that, the only real problem i have is that getting to the CD close/open button is a bit tough when the tray is open.

biggest downside was the pricetag (3400) but i grew tired of building my own years ago.. and this one still leaves me room for expansion.
