if you do any graphic or print design, CRTs are more color accurate. LCDs are better for web.

kernelpanic 07-14-2005 06:05 PM

Because many rich webmasters get that way by being thrifty.

14" basically means 800x600, which doesn't really work when you do this. You have to weigh the pros and cons against each other.
But upgrading just for the sake of getting a LCD instead of a CRT is what we're talking about here.

I have 1 LCD and 1 CRT. I only got the LCD because it's stuck to my laptop ;) But it's not like I work faster or more because I have a LCD.

It's not about an LCD making you more money or turning you into Bill Gates...

But why not get something for your work that is visually appealing to you? Maybe you like CRTs, I don't. But why not treat yourself to something nice... especially if you use it every day?

1. My matress (tempurpedic) because I sleep there 8 hours every night.
2. My computer (3.2Ghz, 2GB, 76GB Mirror, Dual 19" LCD, 5mbit Internet) because I work here 10 hours every day.
3. My desk and chair (herman miller aeron) because I'm sitting on this thing all day and it's one of the most comfortable chairs.

Plus anything you get for work is a tax writeoff :)

My 24" makes me more productive, so yes, it's about the money.

Vitasoy 07-15-2005 01:05 AM

I agree. It's like a professional golfer playing golf with a wooden stick.

Having a big LCD is not only more appealing, it also increases productivity. Especially with dual monitors.

In what way does a LCD increase your productivity? I thought LCD and CRT was just a monitor that displays the same thing.

19" Dell LCD.

Wanted to do a dual, but stuck with the 1. I do have an extra 19" LCD sitting in the closet if anybody is interested.

Roald 07-15-2005 03:28 AM

Naw, they don't display the same. Crt display quality pisses me off, so i can't work as much on them.

LCD's are better for your eyes for one. Your chair and desk are EXTREMELY important, it can be a difference of getting something done in a day or in a month.

One thing i'm not sure abou though is why you guys have 2 or 3 monitors, is it some web designer only thing?
