Agreed.

I am most certain Rick will deal with this and learn from this.

Somewhere management as failed him and they deserve what's coming. I was running one of the bigegst call center in Toronto many years ago for Sitel Corporation. We had clients like Visa, MC, Rogers, Bell Atlantic. And yes it happened that unfortunatly our client got hear before us or at same time about a night shift manager skimming on sales or cheating on sales pitch with sales rep.

Of course we got blamed for it. That manager was employed by us. but we dealt quickly with the situation, cut a deal with client to make them happy and moved on to do lots more business.

I am sure this will happen between Rick and Rick ;-)

Let me know if you want to do a link trade. We are going to throw a shit-ton of traffic at this site. Let's learn from this, move on and make some money together.

Hey Rick, all will be fine. I attest to the fact that you nor Marc knowingly tried to pull a fast one on us. I'll move on, we'll both do business again I'm sure and hard feelings will be lost. I don't regret exposing this, and I do hope we all get something out of it in the long run.

Peace.

p.s. changing that sig now, been meaning to do that.

I had no doubt Rick would take of it:)Its a case you hire $300 a month designers, these arent great creative thinkers. I saw it with the mainstream company I worked for.

Richard, it's not only about the avatar. That was an honest mistake, even though it looked the worst. The blatant text copying and site similarities added to my frustration. I won't fudge over the minor similarities, it's not that big of a deal.

However, you may want to re-word the following still:
"Our team works hard to ensure fair and accurate reviews. To view their profile, click their respective icon."
on http://www.pornsavvy.com/staff.php

That's still verbatim from our homepage, and technically "clicking their icon" goes nowhere anyway. :Oh crap

Triple 6 07-13-2005 09:46 AM

pretty damned funny, the 'rogue employee' excuse pulled... but seriously, if there was a deal in the past that fell through concerning interest in the original site, i would think latona would have looked at his new site and immediately noticed content that was pirated from the site he was trying to duplicate / buy previously.

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

Anthony 07-13-2005 09:55 AM

Goddamn, it's good to see Rick posting though.

Too bad on the subject matter.

Nice and classy fellas.

BTW i see your site listed on scriptlance all the time with people using it as "example" of what they want done.

So what? why should it be posted on a public forum... it's nobody elses business. If he ripped you off, file a lawsuit and deal with it. Dont come whining about it on GFY, that won't resolve anything.

You're like what? 2 months in this business?

This has been standard for as long as I've been in the industry, and more. Ranks is Rick M, former owner from Ynot. When Ynot was the only board in town, this was standard practice.

It not only publicy air the grievance, it also warns any one else doing business with either party.

Thankfully this has reached a positive end, but posts like this have a use, and should always be considered.

What do you mean it won't resolve anything? Looks to me like part of the problem has already been fixed, and I'm sure when they read this thread again the rest will be taken care of as well.

There's no lawsuit here... I can't prove damages. GFY is the most effective cease and desist one could make. My intentions weren't to hate on Rick Latona (or Marc), but it was to say "hey this shit isn't cool" and sometimes it's important to set an example. We've been dealing with a lot of BS in the last year from imitations, and we needed to start stickin up for ourself. The next one might think twice or at least use some more creativity, don't you think?

In addition, I'm not just the guy giving orders or steering the ship. I design every page on thebestporn.com, and write all the text except for the reviews. You don't see me post on GFY much (i read a lot though) because it's so time consuming. So I take a lot of pride in our site, more than just coming up with the concepts.

Rick M. is one of the true pioneers of this industry and one of the most tactful business persons I know.

This was a good way to deal with it and it is the way it was done "in the good ol' days".

Not only did it address Latona who came out and responded professionally as did his subordinate (generals always should be prepared to commit seppuku for their emporor) but Rick M's post also sent a message to all the other copycats looking to ride BestPorn's innovations.

Kudos.

This surprises you?

You are talking about people who have made their money with other peoples content, usually without permission.

Of course, that is just my opinion.

You do have a point... :2 cents:

First, some words to those talking smack OTHER THAN RICK. Rick's got a right to be pissed and I'll address that in a second.

Jesus Christ on a pogo stick. Some people out there just love jumping on an anti-CJ thread any chance they get. If ANYONE has a beef with us it's not like we're hiding. This wimpy "oh yeah and they suck b/c of this too" stuff is just plain cowardly. [email protected]. 404-808-3187. ICQ - 64425641. I've you've got a problem, don't be a pussy. Call me.

Now, to the problem at hand. ALL of you are missing one huge point: THIS SITE ISN'T LIVE YET!!! There is only one single link burried in a drop-down on the SickSiteNetwork.com navigation piece ONLY on CJ and it's ONLY been up since 7/3. It's just enough to send a trickle of traffic to it to test. If it was live and launched and had my seal of approval don't you think I might have posted something about it? Maybe put ads up for it on all my sites? Hmmm?

Next. on the Rick Latona trashing. Get your facts straight. I handle everything to do with consumptionjunction.com, steakandcheese.com, freakhole.com, revengeworld.com, cjtraffic.com, pornsavvy.com and a few more sites coming down the pipe. Rick is NOT responsible for these sites so he's NOT responsible for this screw-up. I am.

Finaly to the question at hand, I'm not blaming squat on a rogue employee. An employee was told to use "placeholders" till we FINISHED THE SITE which hasn't happened yet. Should that employee have gotten his placeholders from Rick M's site? Hell no. Would that have been caught before we launched? Hell yes.

As for why he went over to Rick M's site it's probably because we took a long hard look at the site when we developed ours. Why not? He's got the best review site out there and we want to build one better. We also looked at Rabbits, AdultReviews, and SirRodney.

Did we copy them? NO. Is our site different? Yes? Did any of you jack-off's accusing us of copying people bother to surf the site, sign-up, use it to know what you're talking about? No.

I'm very proud of this site and how it's different. We have busted our ass to make it a place surfers will come to for reasons OTHER than just to find a review of a porn site. It's a major drawback to every review site out there and that's where we're different. We've got user-interactivity built thru the entire site. You can add any piece of content to your favorites list. You can comment on any peice of content. You can rate any piece of content. We've got a real-deal forum in which the actual writers of the reviews will interact with the visitors. We've got more video content than anyone - min of 3 clips per review. We've built in the ability for the surfers to come and just surf thru the video clips and the galleries like they do on CJ. Of course if they see a clip they're interested in they can click to read the full review or visit the site.

Long and short, don't judge a site I've busted my ass on till I say it's ready to judge. I've already emailed w/ Rick M, made my apologies, made peace. If that's not good enough for anyone else I don't really give a flip.
