1) as a brit I am not aware that ANYONE has EVER been nabbed for doing something their own home caught on CCTV - they point down streets, not into windows 2) two years ago city centre CCTVs picked up a teengae girl being snatched in the street in yorkshire by a guy at 1am and dragged into a park - cop cars from all different directions where on the scene in minutes and grabbed the guy. God knows what would have happened otherwise. I've got two teenage daughters and this one got to me. 3) nobody in the uk complains about CCTV cams but everyone complains about speed cams on roads (as do I), which is a DIFFERENT THING ENTIRELY. 4) your knowledge of my country is obviously superficial and stupid. shut the fuck up. :321GFY 4) |

Sperbonzo also claims to have witnessed many people die waiting for health care while living in the UK :1orglaugh |

2. I didn't say that it wasn't effective in stopping crime, I just said that they were all over the place. 3. I never said that anyone complains about them in the UK. I find people there to be far more tolerant of a very strong central government. I said that I thought that AMERICANS would not be too happy about them 4. You obviously did not read my posts very thoughly, you don't know me, and you're personal insults are silly and pointless. Please learn to debate like a grownup. :2 cents: |

Like most places there are strengths and weaknesses.. The UK does have more cameras than any square mile elsewhere in the world. These are not "govt cameras" necessarily - just common sense stuff (banks/stores blah). However, any city, especially around sensitive locations and where bombings previously occurred, will usually have some video security and traffic control cameras are normal.
UK Intell may be good, but they also have screwups. The most public and notorious being the IRA Guildford bombings where the pressure was on law enforcement to find bodies to charge and they "arranged" the selected candidates who were stuffed in jail cells for years until the lying police officers and Crown Prosecution Service collusion was exposed. Tho this was a problem with deviant investigators and a total asshole forensic "expert" - a people thing! Generally they are good and don't make a fuss and get the job done. Rest assured, the only reason the US does not have cameras is it could not afford em to cover the country and would be kinda pointless in rural areas - otherwise they would be there. But it won't be long till they are in full operation in cities. |
I have heard good things about European intelligence agency, especially in the UK.

the uk has the highest cctv camera per human rate in the world. one of my friends used to work in one of the cctv centres and she was resposible for directing emergency services to crimes as they were being committed.
i think the cameras are effective at at least apprehending criminals, and maybe stopping things from escalating - although im not sure how much of a deterrant a camera would be to a drunken person that just wants a fight or a suicide bomber etc |

You seem to be under the delusion that the only way to get medical care is to wait on a list. Basically it can be exactly the same as the states - ie there is private health care AND you can pay upfront if you don't want to wait... what we have that you don't have however is top class health care that doesn't bankrupt you if you're willing to deal with a waiting list for non emergency procedures and top class healthcare that you don't have to wait for if it's an emergency. I don't understand why Americans seem to think healthcare in Australia is like commies waiting in a bread line. I guess it's just ignorance. |

sperbonzo sorry you didnt like my choice of words, your post was so poorly thought out that I couched my response in terms i thought you'd understand. If I insulted your undoubted intellect, thats tough, but whoever said life was fair ? |
ps I'm a big Orwell fan. Your crack about putting up the Oceania signs wouldnt have amused him much - it would have shown how much you missed the point about his book. CCTVcameras are there to protect society, not control it.
