    Dude im scared, my legs swelling up BAD

    I've got some vicoden 10's i can take for the pain, but im afraid it might make it worse.

    I'm laying in bed (except for writing this) with my leg propped way up in the air for 4 hours now, iced down pretty good.

    The injury is to the knee, but my entire leg & foot is swollen, so im icing that too. Should i be concentrating on my knee icing, or should i be icing my leg/foot.

    The doctors don't open till 9 or 10. Any help is appreciated. Would it be advisable to take this pain medication, or could it be making it worse?

                      Naa i can't i've only got a couple thousand saved up since i got back into the business, & that will be gone in an hour if i do that, & i'll NEVER go through that again without the best insurance (which im currently looking for), and the car insurance is only paying $5,000, which is about all used up since i got the MRI & 6 office visits now. Plus i have physical therapy coming up.

                      Not having universal healthcare really takes a toll on the middle class...if something bad happens you can lose your $500,000 house, your car, everything. Oh & bush passed a new law saying you can't declare bankruptcy based on medical bills. But fuck him, i'm paying back my debts, they'll be done by the end of summer.

                      I'm just wondering if its safe to take another pain pill, prop it up & wait it out.

                      The doctor said there would be swelling, i might just be having an anxiety attack. This sucks really bad.

                                  It would be best to go to the ER and I am no doctor but have dealt with swelling before. But if you don't want to do that ice everything from the knee down. I don't think you need to concentrate on any one area. Just be careful when you ice because ice directly on the skin can cause frostbite really easily. I have seen way too many people do that. Keep it elevated and rest and go to the doctor first thing in the morning. Call a friend or someone to come over and watch over you would be good too and would also be good incase you do decide to go to the ER.

                                  Good way to remember what to do for swelling (RICE)
                                  R - rest
                                  I - ice
                                  C - compress
                                  E - elevate

                                      Hey since you can't go to the ER you can also call your doctor and usually there is an on call doctor you can contact and he will call you and you can ask him about any concerns you have. I have done that many many times.

                                                                                                          OK...based on the dozens of legal commercials they play here in Phoenix - the bankruptcy law is changing but it hasn't officially come through yet.

                                                                                                          I am not a doctor, but I do have a neuroscience degree and *some* med school. The best thing you can do is elevate your leg, stay *extremely* hydrated and if you choose to wait it out until the a.m. call your doc first thing and yell to high hell until they agree to see you asap.

                                                                                                          Hope you are feeling better soon. A swelled leg can be very serious, get some help as soon as you can.

The worst thing of my husband's disablility after his bike crash was swelling in the leg and especially the knee...it led to leg ulcers. Don't fuck with your legs and/or circulation.

                                                                                                                                  If the doctor refers me to the emergency room then the auto insurance should pay for it. Otherwise anyone in canada feel like having me up for a friendly visit?

                                                                                                                                  Its amazing before the accident i was gonna have a sit down with ElvisManson up in Toronto...& some other guys. I've got shitty luck i guess!

                                                                                                                                  Anyways 30 mins till the doctors open up! And thanks for the well wishes!

                                                                                                                                  P.S. Not having insurance can ruin your credit, i'm not worried about payment plants etc., but things like MRI's & private surgeries get sent to collection agencies, & i want to be able to buy a house in florida this fall.

                                                                                                                                                      a- got to the ER, get everything checked and done and then say you have no $, probably they will make yousign some kind of document and pay later.
                                                                                                                                                      b- if you have chinese friends ask them if they know who can help you with that, cheap.
                                                                                                                                                      c- talk to latinos that are there illegally, surely they have some community doctor.
                                                                                                                                                      d- take aspirin to avoid clogs
                                                                                                                                                      e- dunno where you are but try to make it to Canada or Mexico and get it fixed.
                                                                                                                                                      f- call a tv station and or local newspaper and tell them what you are going through, if they don'thave a lot of stupid covergaes they might cover your case and you will get help
