The Supreme Court Fight is on....Now is the time to step up to the plate!
According to MoveOn.com:
Dear MoveOn member, Just days after Justice O'Connor's resignation, the fight to protect our rights is in full swing. By all accounts, this will be a long, fierce campaign. The radical right is already pouring millions of dollars in large, secret contributions into the right wing spin machine, determined to ram through whomever Bush puts forward.1 We have a different approach, one that relies on millions of ordinary Americans giving what we can to protect our rights?and this is when you're needed most. If Bush announces an extremist nominee we'll to need respond fast and hard with ads on the airwaves and in major newspapers that get our message out?and none of it comes cheap. So today we're launching our Emergency Fund to Protect our Rights with an initial goal of $500,000. If you can help us get there now, we can leap straight into action the moment we hear the news. If keeping an extremist off the Supreme Court is important to you, this is a great time to chip in. https://www.moveonpac.org/donate/pro...F0TL8Iiimw&t=3 The national press is already reporting that this will be the most expensive, ruthless Supreme Court nomination ever. They're calling this the "Presidential election of 2005"2 and estimating as much as $100 million will be spent in the fight.3 Why are far-right leaders like Jerry Falwell and James Dobson determined to spend so much? Because even with Republican control of Congress and the White House, our independent courts (not to mention the Constitution) still interfere with their drive to impose a narrow, far right agenda on the rest of America. After more than 10 years without an opening on the Supreme Court, this is the chance they've been waiting for to seize complete control. As radical right leader Gary Bauer put it this week, the far right base elected a "conservative president and a conservative Senate majority for precisely this moment."4 Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council said it this way: "When the time comes, a Supreme Court vacancy cannot be considered just one of many issues, but THE fight to end all domestic fights."5 And Pat Roberston, asking for divine intervention to remove Supreme Court Justices wrote, "I don't care which three, I mean as long as the three conservatives stay on. There's six liberals, so it's up to the Lord." These radical right leaders and their millions of dollars have tremendous sway with Bush and many members of the Senate. To counter their influence and protect our rights we'll need to be able to hit the airwaves, as well as the streets and the phone lines, as soon as a nominee is announced?and keep up the volume through what will surely be a long, brutal campaign. If we can raise $500,000 for our Supreme Court Emergency Fund today, we'll be off to a great start. Please give what you can. https://www.moveonpac.org/donate/pro...F0TL8Iiimw&t=4 Thanks for all that you do. ?Ben, Joan, Carrie, James and the MoveOn PAC Team |

I know it is a lot of reading.....but, for the future, it is very important that we begin a discussion of the future of the Supreme Court and how the appointments will affect our industry..
Think about it.... and, act if you feel the urge. We are not impotent! We can be Players in Washington if we get organized. We need to develope websites that express our point of view without the porn images. We need to encourage public discourse on such abstract ideas as "Freedom", "Individual Rights", and "Parental Responsibilty". And, finally, remember that our values that we cherish in our homes are "family values" as well. Don't let the Religious Right define the arguments. |

If we don't get involved, I fear the "party" will be rather short...

You should want candidates that dont want to take away your private rights and your private property.
Eminent domain is just one example of what the supreme court can take away from you. Liberal judges have voted to take away your private property if the government wants its. Next it your guns, and then your private business and your private retirement. Remember the liberal philosophy: "We're going to take things away from you on behalf of the common good" - Hillary Clinton I agree, we should all make the same amount and live in the same size houses. |

Also I have been making contributions to People for The American Way, see their new site on this topic at http://www.savethecourt.org
Nice thing about PFAW is, attack ads are more moderate and don't stir up republican sympathizers the way moveon does. Check out their commercial at that site and note how past presidents have appointed judges that get overwhelming support, as opposed to whatever dufus Bush will appoint.

I don't particularily care for the extreme conservative or the extreme liberal position.
I'm more of a centerist with Libertarian tendencies. I just don't like to see anything forced on me, my family (values), or my business without putting up a good opposition. Both the Left and the Right are about control. The Left wants to control your wallet and the Right wants to control your personal life. I'm a 70%er, I don't binge with either lunatic fringe. |
