![]() Hey peeps :
I need some urgent help here .... please do not reply with the usual FORMAT C: and likewise smartass comments ... My Microsoft word is totally FUCKED ... if you honestly have any idea how to correct it, please reply. When I open Word (either by double clicking a .doc file, or by selecting MS Word from the prorams list), I get the following error: ![]() When I click OK, Word closes about 3 seconds later ... I tried the help files but didn't make any sense to me at all ... I have uninstalled and re-installed Office2000 3 times now ... and even reinstalled Win2000 Pro .... still the same thing happens I have even installed all the available updates for Office .... any help at all would be very much appreciated ...

I am pretty good with VB, but that error doesn't make sense. Anyway, MS Office is tightly integrated with VBA (Visual Basic for Applications), which is the language that every Office product uses for it's macros. I suspect something in the Macros is screwed up. And since your Macros aren't deleted when you uninstall Office, your problem is still there.
You need to uninstall Office and then manually clean up anything Office related that the installer couldn't remove. If you have never used/made any Macros in word, you might have had a macro virus in your system at some time. Those virii can spread through Word documents like crazy. Feel free to contact me, if you need more specific information. Good luck. |

Close all running applications, most importantly, Word 2000.
Launch Windows Explorer. Go to C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Word\Startup. Delete the MathType Commands for Word 95 file. Quote:

Thanks, "TheDr"
That link pretty much confirms it. Hungryman: If you are using some kind of anti virus software, try disabling it. Anti virus software protects against macro virii, and it seems like Norton is being a bit overprotective, causing Word to fail on startup, since it's macro files are being locked out by the AV software ;) |

And yes I tried disabling Nortons Antivirus 2002 .... same error

I am not getting that error anymore .... now it just closes 3 seconds after it opens .... and if it means anything ... it is creating a new file on the desktop (or wherever the particular .doc file resides, replacing the first 2 letters in the filename with "~$" THIS IS BULLSHIT !!!

Sorry man, I know this stuff can be a pain. I posted the same link that DR did with out realizing it. Believe it or not I have a friend that does call Microsoft Tech support and has found help there.
If you tried everything in that tech article - I am at a loss. Usually I end up formating c (seriously) (after using a boot disk to check for boot viruses - reinstalling windows and office. sometime that is the only cure, but it sounds like you have done most of that already. Did you reinstall 2000 from scratch? I am not as familiar with 2000 as I am with 9X, but you pretty much need to get rid of windows and start over - otherwise it might pick up some of your old configuration files. WIth 9X it seems like every six months to a year or so - this would be necessary. I know that isn't much help, but good luck anyway. |
