I'm not a car guy so I waste my money on music.

I'm an audiophile, and car guy. I use to kill hours installing high end systems, into cars. Did a mobile DJ station once... good times.

Shit, both

I record my band and other punk bands around Atlanta, I have mostly vintage stuff because I picked it up cheap.

Tascam 388 1/4" 8-track reel-to-reel (Coolest thing I've ever owned in my life and I got it from a friend for $0.00)
Tascam 238 cassette 8-track (What I learned on)
Delta 1010lt 8-track sound card (for dumping from tape)
Makie 16 channel mixing board
Behringer 16 channel board
M-audio buddy preamp
Bunch of shure sm58's and 57's, a few MXL condensers
And my favorite mic, the $30 (yes, $30 brand new) behringer ECM8000 room measurement mic (masquerades as a really dirty good sounding overhead mic)

God damn, nice mics man, my most expensive mic (actually a 2-pack) is $100 for both the MXL 993 and 990 (pathetic, I know, but my budget for stuff like this is low for now)...I'm really in the market for another overhead, I don't record drums stereo...I want something that's not as bright as the MXLs...the only reason I stopped using the ECM8000 is since it's an omni, you can't record live in one room...and I'm trying to get as much down on tape in one take as possible to save the heads on my 388.

Ok, here we go:

My band The Carbonas, doing some covers for a comp that some german dude's putting out...I play drums, this is also the first thing I recorded on my new 388:

If anyone on this board can name the bands who originally did these songs, I will be truly fucking impressed beyond belief.

Our friends, The Frantic, doing their full length, should be out in a few months...very rough mix:

Friends from Chicago, The Busy Signals, recorded 5 songs for them for 2 singles that will be out soon...again, rough mix...girl vocals are tough to mix:

Thanks man

Yep, late 70's power-pop influenced punk is all the rage these days, at least in the micro-underground scene that I'm involved in.

The Rode has a warm, full tube sound, the C1 has a very crisp edgy sound (it gets compared to the Neumann U87 a lot, believe it or not). I program all my drums, the only thing we record live is vox and acoustic guitar, so they definitely serve the purpose. I did have the AKG C414 but sold it always sounded brittle to me - I think it's way overrated for the price.
