I would hope so, why take the gamble on property in a state like Florida when you're pounded every year?

I pay a good chunk of cash a month for my insurance. It was a bitch last year because I started buying my house last summer and had to wait a couple months to close since you can't get insurance when there's an active hurricaine. The waiting was brutal.

you can get hurricaine insurance, but it is expensive, and there is usually a $10,000 deductable. And if you are in "zone 1" (right on the ocean or the intercoastal), the cost goes WAY up, or sometimes you just can't get insured at all.
You can get flood insurance though, In fact you have to, in order to get a mortgage in most areas of south florida (since we are only about 2 to 6 feet above sea level)....and that's usually where most of the damage comes from in a storm anyway.
