How long are potatoes in the fridge good for?

My "girlfriend" put a bunch in the crisper drawer about a month an a half ago at the most. Are they still good? Google didn't find me the answer....and it's 3 am. I could go for one about now, hopefully google will pick up on this thread so no one else has to figure out a stupid fucking question like this on a message board again.

if a potato is no good, you will know. there's no gray area with vegetables. it's either safe to eat or rotten.

they look fine, they're no mold on em that i can see and its only been like a month, so I hope they are ok. yes I keep them in the fridge, I keep my other vegetables in the fridge. here goes nothing, I nuked it up, seeing as i'm hungry and not waiting 50 minutes to bake it, there's nothing out of the ordinary of the appearence, and while i have pleanty of other food i really want a baked potatoe, ive been having some drinks again since my birthday just happened and i really want a potatoe, and i guess i'll let you know soon if an almost 2 month old potatoe is good for the eating.

I'm with you...there is no need to keep potatoes in a refrigerator. They continue to grow even after harvesting, so you'll know when they have gone bad (discolored, shriveled, mushy, dark spots when you cut them, big eyes, etc).

Actually, I just Googled "potato storage" and storing then in the fridge is specifically NOT recommended, since this converts the starch to sugar and adversely affects the usage of potatoes in cooking.

Like the man said, order pizza...and perhaps a new "girlfriend" (not sure why you put girlfriend in quotation marks).

BTW, singular it is potato (not potatoe - even Dan Quayle knows that...well, now he does).

Try slicing them in between to see if its good inside.

I knew that shit looked off, I looked up potato freshness or something and it gave me that e as a correction so I just copy pasted it thinking I was a drunk birthday potato eating idiot when I, of course, was right all along. that's two times google has fucked me today. and just so you know potatoe doesn't mean jack shit, they add the e with an s to make the plural of potato, potatoe itself means fuck yourself!

I worked in a fruit and veg store for 5 or so yrs in my younger days, Keep them in a cool dry place that's where they will keep the longest.

BTW, when a potatoe starts to turn green that shit is supposedly poisonous.

Hey no worries mate. If you ever want to know something about F&V's hit me up on ICQ: 170890891

BTW, one more little tip before I go if you ever want to get something ripe place it in a brown paper bag. With some bananas when they are ripening they give off a gas that will also ripen anything that is placed in the bag with it.

Pretty well know tip but just for those who don't know.

we used to eat raw potatoes when we were at school; you get slightly sick, go see the doctor and get 2-3 days off, there's something in the potatoes called 'solanin' or something of the sort that causes that
