Car people is there really performance with upgrading an alternator??

I have a V-8 5.7 LS1


And it's amped at about 105-108 If I went to 200amped or even 250 (Amps of Battery Maintenance Capability)

It's voltage that makes the spark, not amperage.

So long as the alternator provides the basic minimum amperage to charge the ignition capacitors it makes no difference performance wise. The only time you should be pumping up the alternator is when you are running a beafy sound systems and all kinds of extra driving lights.

It will help your car if you have a high power sound system or something like that. You're not going to see anything happen for power or speed.

Well, My car sits in the Garage and I didn't turn it on for 2 weeks. I replaced the battery because it "died" now the brand new battery is shot after 2 weeks... so I am thinking it's the alternator...Just looking at buying a new one saw that one on ebay

No, but there is a diffrence between Antec 450W and a noname brand found on ebay thats 150W

Exactly. It doesn't increase your horsepower, but a larger alternator will take the heat off your battery.

with engine accessories generally what you do is install aftermarket pulleys/belts so that they draw less engine power do do the job (water pump, alternator, a/c, etc...)

Pretty good chance that is it . . . or you have a ground that is draining it. Easy to test.

get an ameter (or multimeter that can high currents) and test to see if anything is drawing current from the battery when the car is not in use.

Do this - Jump start your car with your "dead" battery, after it cranks, then take the cables off the battery. If your car stays running after the battery cables are off, then your alternator is fine. If it dies, then you need a new alternator.
