    I can't believe that Canada is letting her out of Jail

    Do you guys remember this case with Karla Homolka? She was a total MONSTER. I can't BELIEVE that Canada is letting this abomination out of Jail. I guess every country has it's own system and that's fine, but WOW.... only 12 years? I mean she is a truly evil person.

    Do any of you Canadians remember during the trial, when she was laughing and giggling and flirting with the camera after the things that she did? This freaks me out that she is free already.

                                  It reminds me of the Hindley case here, thankfully she died before she got out. It is very similar in a lot of ways to this Canadian crime.

The three people I heard all said basically they don't mind her living there, that she's paid her debt to society and it's all good as far as they're concerned.

                                                                                          I live here in Montreal, I have for about a year now...and my girlfriend is from Burlington, Ont where some of that shite went down...I'm not surprised at all this, but her release should not have happened. Some people after some crimes simply can't be rehabilitated...not that I believe in the death penilty or anything, but anyone in Montreal who thinks she's paid her debt it kidding themselves, and probably just reacting to the fact she was speaking french to them...

                                                                                                                              good point CDSmith - Im thinking shes going to live her life out on welfare until a book deal comes along. Not sure if she has a gag order on her now, but definitely I see an autobiography authorized coming from this.

                                                                                                                              Yet, knowing canadians - within a few months if not a year she will be forgotten - unless something dramatical happens sooner. We are a forgiving lot if not forgetful.

                                                                                                                                                  The system got wise to that one and knew damn well that without doing something, Bernardo would have been out sometimes in 2018 (or 25 years after sentencing). Bernardo has been declared a dangerous offender which means that he can be held in jail indefinitely. The bottom line in this is that Bernardo will get out of jail in a box.

                                                                                                                                                  As far as Karla being let out, I don't think it's a good thing and I think that the crown seriously messed up when making a deal with her. But a deal is a deal. The crown could have decided to break that deal when new evidence came up but they decided not to. She's out and we just have to live with that.

                                                                                                                                                                              In this case, she has served all her time, without any early release or " probation"... So technically, she is now a private citizen as anybody else.
                                                                                                                                                                              She and her lawyers feels that the media following her every seconds actions is obtrusive and prevents her from reintegrating society....
                                                                                                                                                                              The judges, in 2 occasions, disagreed. She can always appeal to Superior and/or Supreme court.

They wanted her testimony against Bernardo, and they didnt know how much she was involved in the crime.

                                                                                                                                                                                          THEN the tapes came out and they saw that they had made a deal with the devil. In the tapes, she was enjoying raping and killing her own sister.

She didnt pay for her crime enough. The reason she is out, is not because Canada think 12 years is fair. She is out because when her punishment was decided, nobody had seen the tapes.

I think the fact that Homolka was given airtime on CBC's all news French network, RDI, hours after her release proves that.
