    'The Shining' movie question

I like this movie. I've always wondered this.. At the beginning of the movie he sees a picture of a bunch of people who used the hotel in the older days. Then he suddenly appears in that picture as an older self. What does this mean? I've come to my own conclusions about it but I want to know if there is an actual point that I've been missing all my life.
Actually I think it was at the end of the movie when they cut to the picture..

            here's what google told me
The idea is that Nicholson's soul has been around for a long time, and that each time he is reborn he returns to the Overlook Hotel and goes on a murder spree. This is facilitated by the evil, restless spirits residing in the hotel

I think that is what the picture really means but I do like your idea that it is all of the people that died in the hotel. I wonder if the little twins are in the photo.

Jack Torrance appears in the photo as a guest due to him being possessed by the hotel as it was built on an old Indian burial ground, and the hotel is haunted by the spirits from the grave in the same way that Delbert Grady appears as a waiter in the film, but he himself used to be a caretaker and killed himself, his wife and twin daughters who you see in the film.

An absolutely awesome film made by combining the talents of Stanley Kubrick, Stephen King and Jack Nicholson

Yea its one of my favorite films for sure...Kubrick is king, his use of music and camera work really ads to the suspense of the movie...in all his movies. See it for sure if you haven't. And yea that ending was always a bit of a question for me, it seems we all thought along the same lines there and pondered it...I might have to go put it in in a bit and check that picture at the beginning of the movie again.

Kubrick practically invented the "steady cam" as we know it today.

You should watch the making of it, if you get the DVD or Special Edition VHS... it's pretty good, and it's fucking brutal how they treated Shelley Duvall during the shooting, they totally fucked with her mentally to make her be the insecure women she was in the movie...

                                          I agree-
It's on the DVD and I love watching it- It shows Kubrick working his ass off and you can tell he was an asshole and a perfectionist.

I just want to know what kind of pills Jack was on during the shooting of the movie- my guess would be 714's
                                          He seems real Luded out-

If you guys really enjoyed the film, then you should read the book.

It has a different ending to the film, but I will say no more, as I don't want to spoil it for you

I think the book would be highly entertaining and probably gives more insight to what that picture meant.
