How to tell if i need a new soundcard?

i have a dell dimension 2400. the soundcard is on the motherboard. my sound stopped working recently and i checked the connection and its still not working.

i unplugged the speaker output and plugged it back in. usually that alone makes the speakers make a noise when you put it back in but it didnt do anything.

    Hello,

First try to plug your speakers into a CD player or walkman or whatever. It may be them that is damaged.

sound as the sound card anyways the cards that come built in on the boards normally suck.. you can disable the soundcard that came with the motherboard on the bios level and then just get a new pci card .
