Hollywood directors.

Directors today for the most part today rely way to much on CGI to carry them and their films. They have seemed to lost the art of story telling. Many rely so much on CGI that the "mind blowing effects" actually take you away and out of the fantasy they are trying to weave.
I may be about to show either my age or my film knowledge, but give me a Ray Harryhausen over todays Lucas or Spielberg. Yeah I knew Ray's effects were effects and all, but not once did they ever distract me from enjoying what I was watching.

For the most part, I'm burnt out on the special effects films because technically most are done too unrealistic. I'm an engineer by trade and most effects deny even a hint of possibility or even physics. I'd rather relax and enjoy a good drama without even a trace of CGI these days, sadly there aren't enough of those films being done.

I'll take good directors, good scripts, and good actors over even the best effects, any day of the week.

I do not mind effects. I just do not like them done with computers that often. (few rare exceptions like the stuff pixar does)
I want real effect, I want to know people spent hours upon hours building some mask or a new way to have a person change from man to beast.
