Resizing batch images?

Which application will resize over 2000 jpg images in a batch to meet requirements - width or height 1200 pixels, depending on whichever is more, width or height. I cant seem to do it in photoshop 7, it changes all images to width 1200 pixels or all images to height 1200 pixels.

Photoshop. Use the actions, and batch.

Record first action on an image you are trying to do whatever to (resize), then close it, stop recorded. Go to automate, batch, pick the folder, OK.

Done in a few minutes.

Irfanview works great! Thanks.

Photoshop had a problem, it kept asking the image compressdion before saving each image, even in batch process mode. That means I have to sit througout the conversion process for all 2000 images.
