World of Warcraft vs. Everquest

Can somebody please name a few differences?
Everyone keeps saying that WoW is a masterpiece.
But in compare with Everquest is it any different?
What about the graphics?
What about the storyline?
What about the way of going through a fight?

I play both. WoW is laggy in the major cities, and the players are morons most of the time, but with WoW there actually ARE players, which is a huge bonus over Everquest 2.

Everquest feels like it was hacked together. WoW is seamless and very smooth. The fighting and crafting is more COMPLEX in Everquest 2, but more ENJOYABLE in WoW.

What about the economy of both? I know that in WoW stuff is "soulbound", so to make real world cash you would have to build some characters up and sell off the accounts. And EQ has an economy, however underground it is.

Ultima Online has it's own economy, both in the game and on ebay. I feel this enhances the game. EA approves of the trade of items outside of the game, but doesn't protect it.

I've been playing EQ2 since it came out in November and absolutely love it. I highly recommend it. Now I played EQ 1 for a couple years on and off so I was naturally leaning towards the sequel once it arrived and it's awesome.

I looked at WoW but wasn't and still aren't a fan of the graphics; too cartoony for me. From what I've heard from a lot of ppl who play both is that WoW is for the more casual gamer since you level so quickly, while EQ2 is more for the hardcore gamer.

I'm not trying to bash WoW, because I'm sure it's a great game. My suggestion is EQ2 though, although I'm sure you'd enjoy both!

EQ2 has what you're looking for. It's called the "Station Exchange". Info at station.sony.com.

I read your post and I've been looking at it ever since. I avoided EQ in the past because SOA had outlawed an outside economy, which I thought was stupid.

I found WoW to be lame after reaching the mid 30's as a Horde.

It was basically impossible to obtain quests at certain places because the Alliance losers would congregate at low-level quest points.

I'm sure it happens to Alliance as well, but it's just not as prevalent.

It sucks being the underdog.

Actually there is a new game on the block called "Guild Wars"...

No monthly fee compared to others, just periodic game updates you have the option to buy. Very addictive and tons of fun.

I played WoW from Beta & Launch (in November) through March of this year (when I got laid off, I decided to cancel, because playing games won't help me get a job).

WoW rules. EQ2 is for fat nerd goth girls wearing "believe in fairies" tshirts.

I played EQ1 for almost 4 years.
Enjoy'd every bit of the game from the beginning to Plane Of Time.

I got EQ2 made it to L50 within 3 months and then abruptly quit.

Since then I work alot more, I am more productive. But I must admit there is a sadness by giving up MMO. I do miss it, I miss the people I met and played with for so many years.

Even once in a while I miss the run through the Karana's and waiting at the spires to goto Luclin all the way killing the Sea Furies in Ocean Of Tears.

Temple Of Veeshan, Plane Of Sky, and Plane of Hate Raids all the way to leading raids into Plane Of Earth.

SO many memories, so much of my life, 4 years. It was a way of living, truly I miss it and it really does hurt sometimes to remember all the times I had.

Ah.. the memories. I played for 3-4 years myself. Back before the expansions drained the game. I remember the good old days of Freemont, and when your computer would almost crash because so many people were in their sellign their wares.

When you could go into, or around any bank in the game, and pretty much buy what you needed, had to actually be friendly to get the ports, and shit you needed, and those long ass mother fucking hikes from one end of the globe to the other. Shitting your pants running through the one forest between commons, and highkeep, as well as those fucking boats that dumped you half the time on the way to overthere. The spectre, and orce trains in desert.. ah yes.. hours wasted.

But then.. the expansions killed the game off. You made the world so big that people were spread all over, and you could actually go through the old popular areas, and be one of 3-4 people in the zone. You had the bazaar where you could go and buy just about anything, so you rarely had to earn anything anymore. Use one of your high levels to buy everything for your super noob. You had people logging on 2-3 characters at once, and twinking, or power leveling characters to 50 in a week or two.

Oh,.. and I can't forget the tweens. When you got all the young punks coming on a year or two ago, made it hardly worth playing anymore. Between the trains, and all the other bullshit became a game of tattle tale, and people trying to get one another killed.

I've never played WOW but I've heard a lot of good things about it. Sadly or not, I have do not have time for such games anymore. I can't sit on some game for 8-16 hours a day just to get the next level, or whatever else. I cancelled my membership to EQ last year, and not suprisingly get a lot more work done. Luckily, after the first 2 years, I mainly only played Friday nights, and maybe a little Sunday. But when you first get on these types of games, you are addicted like crack. Back in the day I know many people, including myself referred to it as EverCrack since it was so addicting you had people calling in to work to play.

"Shitting your pants running through the one forest between commons, and highkeep"

?

The "deadly forest" was actually Kithicor Woods.
Rogue Epic Fight there and Magician Epic Component dropped there as well.

That's the one I was referring to. I just could not recall the name of it off the top of my head. I remember many times either shitting my pants running through there in the middle of the night, or just having to wait til morning before going through (depending on which class of character I was playing).

My favorite character was the druid. I enjoyed the porting, speed, and other nice spells to make the travels a lot less. Although I had 7 total between cleric (first), SK, Enc, Bard, Pal, and Ranger. The druid and ranger were definately the favorites.

depends on your server, on my server horde outnumbered alliance and SV was impossible to quest in without being ganked like 10 times a session. the only answer was to go do the quests in parties.

however the game is addictive as fuck and it took a lot of willpower to character delete my l60 druid loaded with epic items . ive not played for about 3 months now, and STILL miss it. this game is addictive as hell. just last week some guy hit me up asking "hey are you a1ka1ine?" i said yeh, and he said he wanted "lifestealing" enchanting on his daggers, apparently after 3 months of not playing nobody had found another formula for it and my name was being passed around people who wanted it heeh.

there is a big social aspect to it too, when i closed the account i cut off a lot of virtual friends its for the best tho.

Yeah, I was gonna reinstall it this morning, see if my level 53 char is still on the server.

But then I went on the WoW page and checked server status and ALL servers were down. Then I remember why I stopped playing (seemed to always be down when I wanted to play).

Well, i guess it saves me the $15/month playing. More time for porn.

WoW has a huge economy offline. Some people make good money doing nothing but playing. But that takes skill and knowledge of the game most dont have time to acquire, nor the desire to.
