Family Research Council drive to prevent new ABC show from airing successful

http://tv.msn.com/tv/article.aspx?news=195536

Notice the FRC only got a one line last sentence mention in the article. They (along with other "family" organizations) had a huge drive to complain about this show and threaten ABC advertisers with boycotts. This organization is the same one who says 2257 is a another "tool" they can use to "get rid of pornography".

If you're not familiar with the FRC I posted numerous links to info about them and their activities in this thread:
http://www.gofuckyourself.com/showthread.php?t=479170

Quote:
http://www.religioustolerance.org/news_05may.htm
2005-MAY-31: USA: Hollywood & ABC TV criticized for portrayal of Christians: Citizen Link, a service of the Fundamentalist Christian group Focus on the Family has criticized ABC's "Welcome to the Neighborhood" program -- a summer reality show which features seven families bidding to buy a new house in a suburban cul-de-sac. The neighbors select the winning family. Ted Baehr of Movie Guide wrote that the Christian contestants will be the ones people love to hate. He wrote: "ABC is really making a tremendous mistake in terms of audience. The audience out there wants positive portrayals." Pat Trueman of the Family Research Council criticized Hollywood movies for their portrayal of Christian characters. He said: "Anyone who is portrayed as a minister of the Gospel is treated as someone who is backward, a redneck, prejudiced, uncouth." Don Feder, president of Jews Against Anti-Christian Defamation, said "Christians, especially evangelical Christians are being attacked because they're standing up for the right values." Tim Wildmon, president of the American Family Association suggests that religious conservatives complain to the advertisers of TV programs. He said: "Find out who the advertisers are and contact the advertisers. That's the best way to impact a television program or series." However he cautions conservatives to be careful that when contacting ABC or the shows' sponsors that they don't become the stereotype that they are protesting.

Don't underestimate Pat Trueman and company. They get results. If you haven't read the links I posted in the other thread I highly recommend you do

Bump for the night crowd.
These are the same folks that got Howard Stern pulled off of many radio stations.
Quote:
...A pro-family leader is urging continued public pressure on the Federal Communications Commission because it is a tactic that is obviously working. Family Research Council consultant Pat Trueman says there is a clampdown happening on the broadcast airwaves, and it is coming from a public outcry for a return to decency.
What he doesn't say is that the "outcry" he speaks of is their organization stuffing the complaint box.

Exactly. They have an online obscenity report form which has generated over 50,000 obscenity complaints sent to every state attorney in the US. Before you think it's only against extreme sites, you should know the checkboxes on the form are to report:
Sexual Intercourse
Sadomasochism
Anal Sex
Masturbation
Sexual Bestiality
Excretory Functions
Oral Sex
Lewd Exhibition of the Genitals
Other

Patrick Trueman has long been an outspoken and single-minded voice of condemnation not only of pornographic materials as "obscene" but also material that much of mainstream would consider merely saucy.

The organization's website claims that Trueman is responsible for a "record number of convictions against producers and distributors of child pornography and obscenity."
http://www.christianpost.com/article...grap hy/1.htm
Quote:
"Much of pornography or hardcore material that is shown is considered obscene material by law? and that's illegal," he said. "If we simply enforce the law, it would have a significant effect."

Pat Trueman, senior legal counsel for the Family Research Council to FOTF, speculated "[The Attorney General is] going to go after pornographers who are violating the law across the board, and I think you're going to see this all unfold in the next couple years ? and you're going to get a lot of convictions."

LOL I love how all of you gloss over this part and only focus on the "Christians":
Quote:
The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, after viewing the series, expressed strong concerns.
While it ultimately carries a valuable message about diversity and acceptance, those watching the first episodes could be left thinking discrimination is "not that big a deal," GLAAD spokesman Damon Romine said Wednesday.

"Regardless of how things turn out at the end of the last show, it's dangerous to let intolerance and bigotry go unchallenged for weeks at a time," he said, adding that GLAAD hopes a revised version might air.

Well, the rare event of the homosexual lobby and the religious right bumping uglies is a great topic in of itself but this thread was to update the activities of those I have been warning as a greater threat to the posters of this board than any government entity they may be worried about. I guarantee you their numbers dwarfed any gay lobbies in this matter.

If you've not read that thread, again I would highly recommend that you do so (read past the pissing match that happened within it) to get to all the information posted there on these people.

I am attempting to provide in these threads documentation that the "new morality" being shoved down our country's throat is not the "will of the people" but the work of a very few, well funded, well placed extremists. They spearheaded a little success you might have heard of recently ... half-million dollar fines for TV and radio stations for any single incident declared "obscene". They have quite a number of constituents and legislature's ears that obscenity is on cable and satellite TV and falls under the same local regulations as broadcast TV, which is partly why they file a majority of their complaints in local jourisdictions.

Only because they say it would suggest legitimacy to the industry (which would be free to continue to use .com addresses).
Read up. "Pat Trueman" "Tony Perkins" "Morality in Media" "Family Research Council" "American Family Association" "Focus on the Family"...

I'm gonna have a church built, and only let extremist religious freaks like these failures in. The catch; as soon as you walk in the door, you get shot in the head. It's the only way to stop'em. Besides, that's what churches were meant for, why else would they have such high ceillings then to hold a lot of bodies?

Are you referring to the halfwits that don't read the whole thread before posting?

Expressing strong concerns doesn't go near what anyone else did. Not being religous nutjobs i doubt they'd go anywhere even approaching a fraction of a percent to what the family groups did.

Religion actually seems very unorganized to me. They're all worshipping fake, make believe people, yet they can't get along. They all pretend some guy, who doesn't exist, created us...yet they can't get along. And they all believe this very same guy (starting to sound a bit sexist here now) is always watching over....but doesn't have the balls to show'em self....yet they still can't get along!

Since they like to firebomb abortion clinics and shoot abortion doctors why doesn't some do the same to them? Maybe then they'll get the message to BACK THE FUCK OFF. Do we not have ONE nutjob on our side? How is it they can get the likes of Eric Rudolph to do their dirty work?

Cool site. Once a week or so I use that site to report themselves or some other Christian web site as obscene.

The FRC released their statement on the retirement of Sandra Day O'Connor,
Quote:
"I am confident that President Bush will name a replacement for Justice O'Connor who has the same judicial philosophy as Justices Antonin Scalia and Clarence Thomas, as he indicated he would in his reelection campaign.

"The public is primed for the fight it will take to confirm a nominee. FRC can motivate significant grassroots support for the President's nominees. We will wage an unprecedented effort for a fair and prompt up or down vote through the mobilization of 20,000 churches across the nation, weekly conference calls in targeted states, the strengthening of the FRC team and activation of grassroots through www.frc.org "

I want to say it's "fascinating" or "amusing" that organizations "for families" are exactly the opposite, in my opinion. An organization for family would practice and preach the strength of the family unit and how to watch over your family, keeping it safe.

In my opinion, it's absolutely disgusting, these family organizations and family's not willing to accept responsibility. Fuck them. Fuck their families.
