Actually there is a very clear purpose. The way things were going in the middle east, you had dictatorships that are keeping their people in ignorance and poverty, firing them up about the US and Isreal in order to distract them and keep their medieval way of life going.

The world is now too small of a place for that to be OK. It's to easy for the problems of the middle east to spill into the rest of the world.

The only areas of the world that have some semblence of peace between them have two things.

1. They are democracies
2. They are trading between each other.

By making Iraq a self-governing democracy, the hope is that this will spread through the middle east, and that these other states will become more democratic. There is recent evidence that this is exactly what is happening.

In fact, in the long view, 30 years from now, it may very well be that this is seen as a turning point in world history when the middle east begins to turn itself around and become peaceful stable democracies, as opposed to a festoring sore of trouble in the world.

not saying that it is unique, but damn sitting on the sideline and looking at a country that is proud to claim to be "land of the free" - it looks fucking strange that one law after another is passed that will take away said freedom... and am not talking about normal laws like "you can not speed in your car" or "you must not kill" etc... but total BS laws that hurt innocent people and hinders personal freedom in a BIG way..

Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Jianchao said that China National Offshore Oil Corporation's $18.5 billion offer for Unocal was normal commercial activity between enterprises.

Liu said economic cooperation between China and the U.S. serves the interests of both sides and commercial activities should not be interfered in or disturbed by political elements.

this whole war is a smoke screen of the real strategy.. its a resource mission. the world is running out of oil, and all the top countries know this, so the bush admin is making up a war to invade the middle east to setup defense for the oil rigs. its all about resources people... there is nothing comparable to oil in terms of cheap energy yet, we are using more and more oil and eventually people will fight over it, the bush admin just thought instead of using their smarts, they will just go in and take the oil and let other countries scramble to find other energy sources, then we will just take their technology, meanwhile tons of people will starve to death because food/supplies will cost too much... etc, etc... its really a complex look, but you need to look at the world and not usa...

Lebanon had nothing to do with Iraq. Their Prime Minister or whatever was assassinated. Egypt is mostly for show. Libya wanted sanctions lifted and the like, and i'm not sure what you are referring to in Saudi.
