If the surfer really enjoys the content, does it really matter if it is drm or not? I think drm videos should all play after the membership is canceled, just use it as a tool to keep your content from being whored out from surfers trading your movies

Here is the only scenerio I would use DRM:

1. Right now you can watch our videos in the explorer window.
2. Or you can download them to your local disc.

Only the downloaded videos would be DRMed and that is not even done yet. That would defiently put a dent in the people that join for a trial, download everything, and the cancel.

It's a s simple as that.

Yeah, it's just my opinion but if you are getting a good 40% - 50% trial to full (which I would love to have) then there are more people that are actually unsatisfied and will never come back. I know I would be pissed.

On the other hand, Chris has shown me wher the same surfer has joined 18 times under the same affiliate for trials. What's even funnier is the guy forgot his password! hahaha

Its not like you can send the mafia over their house and make them stay, although I wish you could.

haha, for sure.. its not unlikely to have a member join 10 times because they want to see the updates....But only for 1 day... Or join again to stay on the trial status. Cheap way out...

so in your setup once the surfer would cancel their membership the videos would stop working?

yeah how do you effectively put a time limit on content? because if a guy joins for 30 days, you don't want downloadables to go nill after 3 days..

it'd have to be a script that can tell how long his membership is for, then give him dynamic drm files..

anyone already selling a script like this? doubt it..

it's built into the drm, you can specify how long the person can play the video for. I think having the videos stop working after the membership expires is kind of fucked up but if it makes you more money who cares

Yep, it's like a movie. You go to the theatre, you see the movie, but you can't take it with you. Also, as you pointed out, it will keep you content off file swapping networks and newgroups.

Very good point will only work though i think if you really have some unique content that the surfer just loves. Some companies have dropped drm and none have really explained why. When you look at drm it is no different then the sites that only allow you to stream their videos like topbucks sites.

With the limited trial option catching steam over the last couple of years the wow factor of DRM has dissapated. A lot of big companies are streaming their vids more than offering downloads anyway.

Some guys just love to have the videos downloaded already, so I like to leave that option open. I would say that I would have 2 copies for each - I to play in the stream without DRM and a DRM'ed one for download.

I noticed when I was reviewing the Reality Cash sites for Jays that even when you were watching the stream -- you still had to keep tying in your password. I can't imagine how frustrating that would get to a guy who is trying to krank one out.

Only making the downloadable stuff DRM'ed would give me a HUGE laugh at the asshole surfer that just joined your site, sat there downloading till they got carpal tunnel syndrome, quits, and goes to watch the videos and none will play...now that would be an awesome sight.
