phpadsnew question.

Can this handle multiple domains from one admin?
Or do you have to set it up for each domain?

I'm going through their documentation and can't seem to find an answer.

I have it on one domain and it serves ads for the network.

I use the 'javascript includes' to include the ads on other domains.

I set up each site as a publisher, and each sponsor as an advertiser. I run it all from one domain. It works very well.

I love the way you can duplicate zones - makes setting up sites very easy.

be careful about the number of zones you have setup... too many & it'll freeze up on you. you should have it on its own server if you plan on using it heavily

good advice from opflix ... the beefier the box, the better the adserver it will be.

Meant to say I already have it set up on a dedicated server that I never even considered using it for.

I was going to install it on the one running my blog domains...but now I won't.

i've been running it for damn near 3 yrs & i've had problems with it ONLY when i flipped out trying to do loads of text ad zones & image ad zones running on the same server with my highest traffic site. NOT a good idea. its unbeliveable that its free... i donated money to them cuz they have made me soooooo much money & saved me soooo much time over the years. if anyone out there is running something else but never tried this? you'll be kickin yerself in the ass when/if you ever get around 2 it

you just use the javascript include code with the proper zone

but if you have a hightraffic site like he said. you will have to watch.

or adjust your my.cnf file for mysql

for max_connections

I haven't utilized the zones. Each sponsor gets their own area and each niche gets its own campaign. I then assign keywords to each banner and make all my calls based on keyword(s).

I found it easier to work this way. Do you think zones are more functional?

Actually, you can run quite a few if the zones are spread between publishers. Loading up all your zones in one publisher will definately cause a speed problem. Same thing with advertisers and campaigns. Use campaigns liberally - segregate the ads within each advertiser as much as reasonably possible.

If you aren't keeping ANY stats, the above won't help nearly as much. Updating stats really slows things down.

Here's a few tips for cranking out the banners:

Run your maintenance script every hour - this alone will speed things up dramatically.

Install eAccelerator (upgrade to Turck-MMCache) php accelerator - this reduced my cpu load from 80+% to about 3%

Turn off all the database options (Use persistent connections, Use delayed inserts, Use database compatibility mode )

If you don't need stats, turn off everything.

Otherwise, set stats to Compact. Do prune stats at the minimum level unless you have to keep them longer.

Don't log the source param unless you need it

Don't use a beacon image

Do not use hostname lookup or IP determination

Use local directory for banner storage

Don't log into the admin user interface during peak hours, especially for stats!

HTH
