I have no beef with Canada or Canadians. :2 cents:

How could I hate a country that gave us Avril Lavigne!?!?

I understand that the U.S. doesn't have the best reputation or public image through-out the world but that's just one of the prices we have to pay for being a super power.

That "horrible public image" started with the Republicans a couple of months after 9/11 and their obsession with Iraq. You should thank them. :thumbsup

I am sure Colin Powell is shaking his head in disbelief right now.. "NO NO.. What have I done?!?!?!?!".

Well, that's a crock of shit allright.. I always lock my doors. But Moore wanted to show the United States that we don't live in a state of fear (created by your government) every fucking day.. That was the point. Did you get that? I don't think so.

If they lowered taxes in Canada, I'd move there.
Better than in the USA, where getting any kind of medical work done costs you an arm and a leg if you don't have insurance. Or the insurance costs almost as much as the arm and the leg.
Plus don't get me started! (and I'm American... but I'm fed up with my fucked up country!)

In a train car there were a Canadian, an American, a spectacular looking blonde and a frightfully awful looking fat lady. After several minutes of the trip the train happens to pass through a dark tunnel, and the unmistakable sound of a slap is heard. When they leave the tunnel, the American had a big red slap mark on his cheek.

(1) The blonde thought - "That American son of a bitch wanted to touch me and by mistake, he must have put his hand on the fat lady, who in turn must have slapped his face."

(2) The fat lady thought - "This dirty old American laid his hands on the blonde and she smacked him."

(3) The American thought - "That fucking Canadian put his hand on that blonde and by mistake she slapped me."

(4) The Canadian thought - "I hope there's another tunnel soon--so I can smack that stupid American again."

I rarely lock my doors to the house, and often have no worries about leaving the car door unlocked. The only time that policy has ever been an issue is when I was living on Hastings in vancouver, but then you're a damn fool if you leave anything around that isn't nailed down, locked up, or chained to a post when you're around the densest junkie-per-capita area on the planet. :2 cents:

Moore may have taken a lot of liberties on a lot of things, but the locked door thing is straight up true for most people I've known and most places I've lived, and I've literally lived from one end of Canada to the other.

The high-tax thing is not nearly as extreme as certain people would like you to believe. Those that push the meme are the business owners who try to wring yet more tax concessions away from the government.

Last year, I paid a combined federal and provincial tax load to the tune of around 24%, and last year was quite lucurative. Business owners get a host of tax incentives, particularly small business, and the average work-a-day joe would pay roughly the same tax here as in the US, with the added advantage of guaranteed medical care. Check it out.

Just Canada thinks this??? :1orglaugh

I ain't read the rest of the thread yet... but it's gonna be "GFY predictable" - "Canada is shit", "the French are assholes" and everyone else lives in a "shit country" :-) OK.. get over it! :winkwink:

If it was not for the pathetic conduct and scamming of the US Admin and the apparent "acceptance" of this behavior - I got no problems with the US as a whole.

On "rude" - yea, some are rude. I can think of friends in Texas that think "northerners" are rude. There are rude assholes everywhere - not just in the US.

"Greedy"... maybe with some. It's an insulated consumer society that is almost impossible to sustain unless some form of "greed" is there where as much as possible is bought and consumed cheap. (Doubt it will be economically sustained - the writing is on the wall already.)

"Violent"... greed breeds violence, but hard to say for example, if arms were removed from US citizens that it would be any less violent than other countries.

Tho there are some very obvious peculiar US ways - like "criticism" means "hate", "reverence" shown to law enforcement/law (hell knows why - no way in any other western country!) and acceptance of the "way it is", - humans are the same the world over.

Only my 2 cents.. but the major factor in screwing the US up is the current Admin (irrespective of their stupid politics). The Admin does no credit to the US in any way - they are ... well.. basically useless. People deserve better than that.

:D

:1orglaugh An oldie but a goodie.

Seriously though. I'm guessing that the average Canadian's point of view is based solely on that of the current administration.

I've never thought that American's were any more rude or greedy than us Canucks. More violent perhaps, but that's a perception solely based on media coverage.

The one thing I truly respect about most American's is how patriotic they are. I'll never forget watching the Baseball All-Star game during the first gulf war. When they sang the Star Spangled Banner and got to, "Our flag was still there," the roar of the crowd was spine tingling.

That's something that I see as sorely lacking in Canada.

I thought it was very funny...the "Hey now" was a take off of the HBO show where Hank was the talk show host's sidekick.

SmokeyTheBear 06-27-2005 09:15 AM

Some people have a serious problem reading stats..

If anyone actually reads the stats , it says the MAJORITY of canadians DONT feel that way. All it says is MORE canadians feel that way than did before..

I think the increase in negative feelings since 2002 would reflect the exact same opinions americans would have of themselves..

If anything this stats shows how utterly stupid journalists are.

If you asked 1000 people if bush was the devil and 1 person asnwered YES then they did the poll 2 years later and 2 people answered yes then the same headline would be valid . MORE AMERICANS think bush is the devil , but in reality 99% of them still feel bush isn't the devil..

Dusen 06-27-2005 09:22 AM

As a Canadian I do not dislike Americans at all. Far as I can tell they're as polite and good humored as most people around here.

Just as every country has it's series of assholes so does the USA.

So do we.

Holly 06-27-2005 09:36 AM

It's touching that the Canadians make polls about their feelings towards Americans. It almost makes me feel bad that none of us give a shit about what they think, lol.

Evil Chris 06-27-2005 09:43 AM

Americans are jealous. They want to live up here with us. :)

I think its touching that americans would get so offended by a poll that shows the majority of canadians DONT feel americans are rude, greedy and violent.

Even more touching is how many americans who "dont give a shit what anyone thinks" that respond to such polls. :winkwink:

Gee i wonder if they asked the same question about france what would americans say..

SmokeyTheBear 06-27-2005 09:47 AM

btw heres my favourite american/canadian joke..
