According to the DOJ, all adult websites are now considered CP until they are determined to not have any underage content. I have seen this incredibly ridiculous statement a couple of times today.

That is typical of the current Administration in Washington; making a bold statement that panders to the far right wing while at the same time invoking some icon that makes rebuttal difficult.

But, of course, it is a statement that is utter nonsense. Suggesting that all adult material is CP without contrary proof is like saying that all drivers are drunk until they prove their sobriety.

This entire issue is having the desired effect, from the perspective of the current regime in Washington, DC, utilizing their proven tools of scare tactics, misinformation and redirection of data. They are shoring up their (truly limited but very vocal) base on the far Christian right; exacerbating middle class fears and neutralizing the left. A classic strategic offensive for them.

But there are also weaknesses in their strategy that we can exploit. The first and most obvious is that virtually no adult websites or businesses engage in CP, period. Without doubt, no adult webmaster or other legitimate adult business involved in the vile exploitation of children is registered with FSC or are otherwise lifting their heads out of the muck. In fact, the scumbags who promulgate CP are probably breathing a sigh of relief that the DOJ is expending resources in this manner.

It is like diverting critical resources to invade a neutralized nation at the expense of the legitimate battle to wipe out terrorism; the result, new headlines, redirected popular focus (keeping the public off balance) but an utter failure of any real results.

Which brings us to, well, us. We need to do some important things, the first of which is to allow our trade association, the Free Speech Coalition to do their work. We also need to stop the panic and stay on our own message, which the empirical facts clearly support, that legitimate adult business owners are simply not involved in anything involving CP or the exploitation of minors.

It is also critically important that all of us understand the political spin the DOJ and this regime are trying desperately to convey and counter it at every opportunity. As I said before, suggesting all adult business is CP unless proven otherwise is like suggesting all drivers are drunk until proven sober. The facts line up uniformely on our side.

Which brings me to my final point in this far too long thread. We need to stop hand wringing, pissing our pants and worrying that the FSC is going to fuck us in the end (a truly ridiculous idea) and start reaching out. Don't try to convince other adult webmasters of the right or wrong of things. Begin making our clear and convincing points to people outside the adult world. We have the ability to educate; our members, surfers, friends and others. Add a few words about this idiotic situation to your site(s); tell a friend about it; spread the word.

A post script; the one thing you can bet on in all of this, the DOJ and DC regime are not expending the energy we are on this. Their agreement with FSC proves that. I have experience in these things...for them it's a job, they are bureaucrats, albeit zealous ones, but bureaucrats nonetheless. If this gets too tough for the, or becomes politically hazardous, they will move onto some other focus.
