Sick of DNS lag time?

Well I just set my dns servers in my router to abovenet, level3 & sprint

All of their nameserver ip's ping at 18ms or less, whereas my own isp was sitting at 40ms +.

So in theory, i'll now be speeding up my domain name lookups considerably.

If you know of any faster ones, or if im completely offbase thinking that faster pingtimes mean faster lookup times, please let me know!

Little help here, what in your opinion are the fastest dns servers. It seems to me my isp's do not work well.

As long as you have a stable connection there should be no problem.
If you have two nameservers in two different places its even better.
Overall dns doesn't use much traffic or system resources.
Plus there are cache nameservers which take the load off your servers
so the ping response time doesn't matter that much.

Reply isent everything.. the DNS server have to resolve it to.. if the server responds to the connection in 18 ms, but takes 400 ms to resolve, the its worse than one that take 40 ms to reply, and 100 ms to resolve

The hostfile is cached into mem when you boot (on windows boxes)

depends where you are, the ping time is generally dependant on distance, so the closest one to you will look best. If you are in cali, the oine ine in LA looks great, but to your client in new york, itsa a long way. So I can give you a neat but expensive solution or you can be like most techs and use 4.2.2.1/2

Run your own DNS caching server?
