As requested I have uploaded some more test files on each server. Just remember your connection will most likely be the bottle neck. So try to use a shell account.
I'm going for the day so just email me and I will get back to you tomorrow. Anthony 11 MB Test File RealPlayer.exe (right click and Save Target As) * 75MB Test File protrial.exe (right click and Save Target As) * Down loadable test files http://198.104.150.245/e5test.htm -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Down loadable test files http://198.104.150.45/e5test.htm -------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
Put all the file on both servers...

One server left? Just note that yes the server can be converted to Linux if necessary?

e5 is right. We do the same thing, you get 100Mbps FULL Duplex ports for every
dedicated server. I'm just verifying that what he says is true.... there are alot of hosting companies that sell you a half duplex lossy port. ;-( Im raising my hand to let you know that we also sell the ports at 100mbps. If you anticipate going over that, we simply upgrade you to a gigabit fiber connection or copper gig e. :-) |
Chris,
Thanks for keeping the bar high in the hosting arena. Anthony |
Looks too good

email me, Im looking for hosting info AT webmasterlabor . com

ok, WILL THIRD THE 100 MEG PORT IDEAL. Applications can also limit your true speed. As long as nobody is thinkin of a 100Mbps server for 125 bucks, like someone esle that posted. sheeesh. Tryin to keep on network hacks for windows is gettin to be a full time job. it used to be easy. many applications will treat all users using that app as one user makin your 100 meg server a 10 meg server. That, however, is a forum onto itself. any hosting company needs more than verio (or more than 10 peers) hit me up on icq, trade biz is welcomed, routed and kept on the dl.

Are you sure Verio has only 10 peers last time i checked http://www.fixedorbit.com/AS/2/AS2914.htm Verio had 425 peers total. Just trying to keep the facts stright. Here is what I came up with on your network http://www.fixedorbit.com/AS/29/AS29761.htm 5 peers. :) Anthony |

50 peers.....
oops, i see how you read it.I did not mean verio only had 10 peers, i meant i have more than 10. those multiple peers, have many peers. verio is nice, but 50 peers.....what if verio goes down? seen it happen. Mostly I just wanted to back your 100 meg viewpoint. |
If a host was selling you a 100mbps deal and made it a "half duplex" as you state....then wouldn't you notice that when your MRTG never went above 50mbps??
Just doesn't make sense to me how that could be common place, since I can't see someone committing to 100mbps unless they were doing well over 50mbps consistently. :2 cents: |

That is a great question... In a 100Mbp Ethernet environment when transmission occurs, rate is always 100Mbps. The duplex mode refers to whether transmission can occur *simultaneously* in each direction. When sending data in both directions, a network operating in full duplex mode does indeed have much higher aggregate throughput. So why do most hosting companies not offer a true 100Mbps on a full duplex port? It all comes down network capacity and that boils down to money. Any host offering a full duplex would need two dedicate 100Mbps connections to your server and in the Adult market I do not think that is going to happen often, but that is what a lot of the big players in this market need. Anthony |
Fact is, very few users use 100Mbps both ways.
Its sure a good marketing trick but certainly not much gain for the usuall site that uses most of the bandwidth for downloads. |

I respectfully disagree? we have some clients sustaining a true 90~95Mbps one-way and this would be hard to achieve on a haft duplex port. I though selling someone a half duplex port without informing would constitute a ?good marketing trick?, but that is only my view. Anthony |
