you think we are the only ones the government picks on

The big difference is he tells them to write they will write

First they took away ephedrine. Then they took away prohormones. They?re not done, though, not by a long shot.

It?s time. Time to make a stand.

They act like they?re guided by righteousness. They tell you it?s for your own good. They tell you they want to protect the children. But they?re not righteous at all. They?re guided by self-promotion, misinformation, ignorance, and possibly greed.

Rather than worry about the war, terrorism, starvation, disease, the economy, education, social security, and the price of energy, they?re spending their time legislating supplements; spending their time trying to take away more of our personal freedoms!

We have to stop them. It?s time to make a stand.

On May 26th, Senator Charles Grassley (R-Iowa) introduced a bill that would ban DHEA. This legislation, S. 1137, would classify DHEA as an anabolic steroid and remove it from the market. Similar legislation is expected soon in the House of Representatives.

A lot of you are thinking, "Oh, it?s just DHEA. I don?t have any use for that supplement, anyhow."

Maybe you don?t have any use for it, but that?s not the point. The point is that it has to stop somewhere, and the time to draw the line is now. It?s DHEA today, but tomorrow, it?s creatine. Don?t believe me? Creatine is already on their list of targets.

After that, it could be amino acids, or fish oil, or any of the things we use to improve our body and our health. The supplements will probably still be around, but they?ll be made by giant pharmaceutical companies and you?ll need a prescription to get them.

We have to reverse this . . . this erosion of our personal freedoms.

If not, we?ll soon be like many places around the world where even something so basic as protein powder is illegal. If you need an example of legislation run amok, look no further than Canada, where you need a freakin? prescription to get amino acids.

We can?t be complacent about this, we just can?t. We, as individuals, often think that we?re powerless, that our voice or out vote doesn?t count. It?s not true. T-Nation got involved in the battle against pro-hormone legislation when the battle was considered to be practically over, but your voices changed things; delayed the legislation for a year.

If we act now, maybe we can stem the tide, stop the string of dominoes from falling for good.

There?s a great quote about personal freedom that?s generally attributed to Alexander Tytler, but it applies to our situation pretty well:

Great nations rise and fall. The people go from bondage to spiritual truth, to great courage, from courage to liberty, from liberty to abundance, from abundance to selfishness, from selfishness to complacency, from complacency to apathy, from apathy to dependence, from dependence back again to bondage.

On Tytler?s time scale, I?d say we, as supplement users, are somewhere between complacency and apathy and well on our road to bondage.

You need evidence? Hey, they took away ephedrine and prohormones and you . . . just . . . accepted it. Got complacent about it.

No more. It?s time to make a stand.

If Testosterone Nation is to be anything but a "club" of like-minded individuals with muscles, we need to establish some political clout so we can bring about change or maintain our rights. The way we establish political clout is to speak out as one voice, to rage against the machine.

I?m asking you to do just that, to speak out.

The people at the Sports & Fitness Supplement Association (SFSA) have made it ridiculously easy for us to do so. Just click here to go to the "Save Our Supplements" website.

Put your ZIP code in the designated box in the top left corner and click "Go" to compose an e-mail to your Representative and Senators that lets them know you oppose the legislation that would make DHEA illegal.

The site allows you to choose up to 3 "talking points" that express your feelings. However, if you choose, you can also write your own letter, or even cut and paste the one I?ve written below:

As your constituent, I?m asking you to stop the erosion of our personal freedoms. I?m asking you to oppose S, 1137 and any similar legislation in the House that would classify the benign supplement DHEA as an anabolic steroid and remove it from the market.

Maybe you don?t know this, but DHEA is a naturally occurring hormone with a wide range of benefits ranging from boosting immunity to improving mood and sleep patterns. Additional research shows that it might be a valuable tool in fighting obesity, cancer, and even Alzheimer?s disease.

The legislation in question claims to prevent abuse of this supplement by athletes, reasoning that since it?s a chemical precursor to androstenedione and testosterone, it could be used to build muscle or enhance performance.

Frankly, this is ludicrous. As an athlete myself, I can tell you that I?ve yet to hear of anyone who thinks they can build muscle with this supplement! However, I have many elderly relatives and friends who rely on DHEA.

Americans are the strongest and healthiest people in the world, and we?ve achieved this status partly by taking charge of our own health, by supplementing those things that our diets can?t always provide, or that time robs us of. I know it?s in the pharmaceutical companies? interest that they control these substances, but it?s important not to give the American people fewer choices to maintain and improve their health.

Please, stop this now. Oppose S. 1137 and any similar legislation in the House.

That?s it. That?s all you need to do. But don?t put it off. Do it now. Go to the site, fill out the info, and send your emails. And hey, when you click on "Send message"?

Do it hard, with extreme prejudice.

Thanks,

TC
