From what I'm seeing, people join during a traumatic point in their life. The Church promises various things, similar to other churches and religions. However, Scientology seems to bring people in "easily" and then raise the demands. Money, time, resources, etc. The Church demands that the members cease contact with non-members. They can't read newspapers, magazines, watch news. Everything non-Scientology is evil and they are permitted to do bad things to non-believers. You could tell when they were in the process of brainwashing a new one. The older member would not leave their side..they orderd for them..talked for them.. showed them the way. I got pissed and tried to make the poor confused girl answer me with her own answer and not that of the brainwashed sheep by her side...they didnt not like that at all.
