ufc 53

dig tells me there's some mma fans here. anyone watch this event?

Nick Diaz def Koji Oishi KO

diaz is a stud and a future ufc poster boy. oishi needs to head back to shooto immediately. he's horrible.

David Loiseau def Charles McCarthy TKO (Back Kick)

"chainsaw" was game but he was outclassed by "the crow". if you haven't seen the back kick that spelled the beginning of the end, do so. guaranteed you will wince. chainsaw took this flying knee right after:

Nathan Quarry def Shonie Carter TKO

quarry showed a bit of what he couldn't due to the injury he suffered on TUF. impressive debut.

Paul Buentello def Kevin Jordan Submission (Guillotine Choke)

buentello didn't look quite as good as he did when he made eilers do the "flair flop" but he got the job done. he's got a date with arlovski in his near future.

Forrest def Griffin Bill Mahood Submission (Rear Naked Choke)

mahood is a bum and all of canada should be embarrassed (even more than usual). good night for the TUF guys. dana is happy.

Rich Franklin def Evan Tanner TKO (Doctor Stoppage)

for the middleweight (185) title. tanner got absolutely mauled. franklin, coming off his brutal tko victory over ken shamrock, is primed for stardom. tanner looked like a slightly less grotesque rocky dennis when all was said and done and he wasn't exactly handsome to begin with. this is what happens when white guys get cornrows. god goes old testament on them.

Karo Parisyan def Matt Serra Decision

if you like the ground game this was the fight for you. serra has sick bjj and karo is a judo stud. karo's natural size advantage ended up being the difference.

Andrei Arlovski def Justin Eilers TKO

eilers takes about 500 legkicks in 4 minutes before blowing out his ACL. he was going out on a stretcher one way or another. the ufc needs mir to heal quickly because the HW division is awful.

great if you're a liddell mark. for those of us in attendance it was quite a letdown. not necessarily the outcome (i like both fighters) but the brevity. i wanted a 5-round war.

both are scheduled to go for ufc 54. chuck's getting jeremy horn and randy's getting mike van arsdale (fresh off a win over john marsh). if both win expect the rubber match at 56.

i do watch pride and prefer the rules (soccer kicks, stomps to the face, etc.), plus i'm a huge silva mark. but to say ufc has crap fighters is asinine. liddell, couture, arlovski, hughes, trigg, st. pierre, babalu, franklin, etc. aren't great fighters? you're either using hyperbole to make a point or have no idea what you're talking about.

For some of us who frequent the underground, seeing one of our own, "Chainsaw" McCarthy in the big show was a treat.

Yes, he got out fought that night, but he gave Losieu a run for his money when he had his back.

Chainsaw is a FFA fighter, trained by the Avellans. He is one bad motherfucker, and reading his post fight thread on the underground, made me a bigger fan. No excuses, he lost. You don't see too much of that.

no question, class act. chainsaw posts on another board i frequent and therefore i was pulling for him. i figured he wasn't quite ready for the crow and i was right. but he's still young and he's now gotten some valuable time in the cage. the value of having experience fighting in front of a big crowd cannot be underestimated.

I've been slacking off huge since I hurt my back doing legs. No Jits, no boxing, no lifting weights.

hahaha if you compare ufc's heavyweights to pride's... ufc has no chance... fedor and crop would knock the living shit out of arlovski...

ufc rely too much on liddell and couture since they are running out of fighters to market... maybe they should stick to reality tv...

actually every division of pride is far superior to ufc's... not to mention the crowd that attends ufc are morons... all they want to see are two guys throwing haymakers at each other and start cracking the shits and boo'ing if the fight goes to the floor... not to mention the commentary for ufc absolutely sucks nuts... GO BAS!!!

I know that feeling. It seems no matter how hard you train, how many hours on the mat, you amount to a pimple on a whale's ass against the real pros. It's a humbling experience.

My first class with Rener Gracie kinda went like that. Still does to this day.

Pride has better fighters for one reason alone. They get paid the big bucks. It will take time, but UFC will also start getting up there paying the fighters what they are truly worth.

Pride is definetly more brutal and has a much more educated crowd. It's really irratating to me when people boo the most technical aspect of fighting when the fighters are clenched or on the ground.

Overall I prefer UFC because of the cage. Pride has too much stoppage due to repositioning of the fighters. The cage keeps the action constant and fighting off the cage is an art all in itself.

no one made any weight class distinctions. everyone knows pride's hw division is better than the ufc's. you said the ufc has "crap fighters" which is patently absurd.

seeing as kevin randleman put cro-cop to sleep i don't think you can say with any degree of certainty that he could take out arlovski.

that's probably why they keep adding guest coaches with each subsequent season of TUF, to market their current champions.

you mean all two of them? pride has hw and lhw and that's it. i can safely say that ufc has superior welterweights. care to start making some sense?

and having attended quite a few ufc's i can tell you the crowds aren't like they used to be. they cheer the action on the ground and go apeshit for subs.

bas without quadros=shit.

hahaha every fighter has lost due to a lucky punch... and crocop submitted randleman so easily in the rematch...

errr do you watch bushido? they have a wealth of middleweights, lightweights...

hahaha you actually think bas is a shit commentator? it's quadros who is the one who talks shit...

have you seen the pride middleweight tournament? to say it's only hw and lhw is stupidity

I don't know about that son. Dig has almost every Pride Fight that has come out on DVD as well as numerous UFC's and KoC.

He's right, a fight is a fight. A punch is a punch. There's an old boxing saying, a punchers chance.

Maybe you don't do enough fighting to know better.

bahaha you make things seem so black and white... do you really think if randleman fought crocrop once again he'd actually have a chance to throw a strike like that again? crocop proved it was nothing more than a fluke...

The punch that randleman landed on cro crop was well timed and had some luck involved... Every fighter has a punchers chance in a fight.

They did fight again and Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic submited him, via a Guillotine Choke in PRIDE Shockwave 2004. Needless to say he couldn't land that ko punch in the rematch

submitting randleman is hardly newsworthy. he's perhaps the dumbest fighter in mma. a k-1 veteran getting knocked out standing by a HammerHouse fighter is just plain embarrassing. there's no way you can say with any degree of certainty that cro-cop would take out sylvia, mir or arlovski.

and there's no such thing as a lucky punch. there is, however, bad defense.

Ya in Mandalay Bay downstairs in the fighter area.

Wasn't a real roll, had to be careful not to hurt himself before his fight, just flowed a little.

Thought you might have been his manager buddy there with him./

In the ring with pride rules... Cro cop would KO all 3 of them no doubt about it.

randleman put him to sleep in the ring with pride rules and he's a worse striker than all three of those guys, including mir. take that idiotic "no doubt about it" bullshit elsewhere. there are no sure things in mma.

Mirko was looking for it and not to be embarrased again? LOL

MMA is the closest to a streetfight you'll find anywhere. As anyone who has fought knows, you can go in with all the training in the world, be the baddest motherfucker around, but one fuck up somewhere can and will lose you your fight.

Everyone has been defeated, even the Gracies. Though using Gracie Logic, Gracie Jiu Jitsu has not been defeated, as every MMA fighter now learns it to be able to defend against it, or even win with it.

Damn you all for posting the details. I have yet to see the latest UFCs.

I'm from Cincinnati myself and am very pleased to see a fellow Cincinnatian raise up in the ranks of UFC. A guy I used to train with tried out as an alternate in the UFC and was beaten in under 40 seconds of the first round. It's funny how easy it looks on the screen, but when a guy you've seen kick two guys on the street knocking them out cold gets beat in 40 seconds in the big show, you realize real quick how serious these fighters are.

Another buddy of mine is training with Hexin (sp?) Gracie. Fuckers always wanting to wrestle me to show me how good hes getting. Little thick fucker looks like Shamrock.

I'm 7ft tall and too out of shape to ever consider getting into competitive fighting anymore but I do love the UFC. Pride always seemed low rent to me but I guess thats because I never knew a whole lot about it.

Go Rich Franklin!
