    2257 and Canadian TGPs

    Hi,

I red some articles about 2257 US law and its new regulation that will be effective on june 23. Looks like US Gorvernment don't like TGP webmaters a lot . I know there's some TGP gurus around here, so maybe you can help me advance my research. I'm a canadian who lives in canada. How do this regulation affets me as a TGP owner. I see that many US sponsors take mesures right now : changing their banners, droping their free content and adapting their hosting galleries. But do canadian sponsors still have the right to sell membership in the US and promote it the canadian way? Anyways, I just try to get knowledge about this issue. I think maybe it can bring some legal opportunities for canadian webmasters.

Heh, do a search.. it's been covered so many times
    Long story short,
IF your content provider allows it, and you're a canadian citizen, hosted in Canada, then you don't really have to worry about 2257 at all..
But some sponsors ARE revoking content.. (EG: Lightspeed)..
In those cases, you have to take your non-compliant lightspeed galleries down, but ONLY because lightspeed wants you to...
    otherwise, don't worry!
(unless you use US hosting )

God damn it! I have been sitting here looking for the answer to this question for like an hour. LOL This garbage is making my head hurt. SO, just to make certain. As a Canadian, living in Canada, using non-US hosting, 2257 is nothing unless the affilate program (ie Lightspeed) demands you comply. Right?

You should get your facts straight. It does not matter where you are hosted, (registered isp'd are excempt) it matters where you run your biz, and who you do biz with and a few other things, but NOT where your servers are located.

              I agree

if you deal with US , here's the questions to ask ...Do I deal with US ?

              from the law text :

' The rule is no different from other forms of labeling requirements
imposed on foreign producers of, e.g., alcohol, tobacco, or food items
that are imported into the United States. In order to sell in the U.S.
market, foreign producers must comply with U.S. laws. '

do you have US surfers ? if not I guess you don't have to deal with the regulation...
SIG TOO BIG! Maximum 120x60 button and no more than 3 text lines of DEFAULT SIZE and COLOR. Unless your sig is for a GFY top banner sponsor, then you may use a 624x80 instead of a 120x60.

Thanks yall for the anwsers. I know that the location of the servers is not important. What matters is the physical location of the business owners. But the customer issue seems to be more complicated. As a TGP owner I don't have any customer, I'm just an information provider, right? As a canadian I don't have to keep a record of the models if they don't look like little girls. So if my sponsors let me use their hardcore banners, free contents and thumbnails; I shouldn't have any problem, even if all my surfers are from USA, right? Seems a little too easy, I guess US governement is smarter than that. Do I miss a point?

You have no problem with US surfers.

It is like American tourists visiting Toronto and doing some business. Canadian laws apply, and if there are any US legal implications, they apply only to the American.

If your a canadian webmaster your only restrictions are those set forward by your sponsor.

He is Canadian, lives in Canada... so hosting location is the last important piece...

Hosted OUT of USA and he is fine. He just has to conform to the directives of the programs owners.
