Question to Mac Users...
I got my mac mini via mail today and have some questions.
1. Is dashboard supposed to show up on the bottom by default? If so mine doesn't how do I get it there? 2. Is there a multi icq/yahoo/aim client for mac? 3. Is there a command line? So I can ssh into servers and such? Any other apps/items you think I need to know for a new mac user, I would be very appreciative to hear them. Thanks, Andy

I love my Emac. There is def. an AIM program that i use on mine. The toolbar at the bottom was there automatically for me, but im assuming you can fix it by going onto your system preferences. I'm at work right now on a PC tho, and I'm not the most computer savvy dude alive.

1. Dashboard: if you have Tiger installed it should be there. Hit F12 and see if it pops up.
2. It's called "fire". It's like trillian. Go to www.versiontracker.com and search for it. 3. I don't know. I'll let someone else answer that one. |

Dashboard isn't there, know where it might be located? I know its OSX Tiger as it says it on the CD etc. I got the thing today so it should be tiger, but dashboard isnt there by default on the bottom. Know what folder it might be in for me to dock it?
Thanks so far, I have the terminal window now ![]() Andy

Um I would RTFM except the manual I got with the mac mini is like 30 pages and doesn't cover this shit, and I have yet to find anything on the mac itself.

Try my first suggestion then, by fixing your Dock preferences.
If that doesn't work, start using your 90 days (or whatever it is) of free tech support (oh yeah, an be sure to say "hi" to the tech boys in India/Phillipines for me). ADG Webmaster |

download.com and versiontracker.com have a lot of sofware...
A lot of software that once was a recommended download is now built in so if you are looking for good software here are a few of my suggestions. Transmit/ftp, subethaedit/txt editor for html/php etc..., vlc/will play a lot of your avi/wmv files that dont have the right codec for mac. Just enjoy your mac and get used to it. Try not to get frustrated with the initial learning curve and change in OS. |

Just FYI I figured out part of the problem. When I bought it, it said it came with OSX Tiger, which it did, however there was an upgrade dvd that needed to be installed first (which I didn't know .. i assumed it was already done). When i started browsing around I noticed it was still 10.3 so I installed the upgrade DVD and am now at tiger.
Thanks for the info I will start browsing the websites you all provided. Sort of weird coming from linux, but pretty nice how everything just works ![]() Andy

Run the system updates. And as for FTP programs, I like Fetch better than Transmit. I have both. I think it's just a matter of preference. |

Easy in Transmit.
1> Select the file you want to work with. 2> Hit Command"Apple", "i" 3> Check out the window that opens, set your permissions. There you have it! |
