As of today I have been living in the UK for nine years

Kind of odd celebrating that on my own for the first time - well I had friends over and we went on Thames cruise which was very nice but not the same as with Marc. However, as strange as it felt it is still nice to celebrate the single most risky and some-what brave thing I ever did.

What is something brave or risky that you did that you are proud of?

Some folks have no "couth", do they? :-)

They'll be asking how much money (in $ value of course) you have in the bank next.

Congrats on your anniversary in Brittyland!

Risky? Well... I used to live in Brittyland - not far from where you seem to be now! :-) One morning I woke up and thought - time for a change and better climates and less of that council tax stuff! :-)

So within a few months we sold up everything and moved to white sandy beaches and palm trees in the Caribbean. Now, most of our biz is based in the Caribbean and Latin America and, at last count, 23 families (friends back in the UK) have either followed on, or are following us shortly to the same locations :-)

Two other UK webmasters and their families are also moving out shortly - the net does enable "mobility" :-)

Can't say I've looked back and have any regrets, - in fact the opposite, - met loads of amazing people, but it's still nice to visit the UK and meet up with family and friends.

Cheers Sarah! It's a small world - might meet up with you at the pub! :-)

Well, I have been here since I was 19 so I never really lived as an adult in the States. So, I don't think it is totally a fair comparisson between the two but I would say there are things I miss and things I would miss too much from here if I moved back. London suits me.

Much as I said above there are things I like about both places. I know that I am clouded because I live in London and isn't totally representative of the entire UK but the liberal attitude of London suits me very well. I like the world view of the UK in that it is easier to get news coverage of the rest of the world here than back in the States. I like that there isn't much snow in London..lol. Where I grew up there was so much snow that I have frost bite marks on my legs even now. I like the general feeling of public duty here even if people bitch when they do it.

I miss my family back home a good deal, I miss a lot about Philadelphia as a whole because it is the area I grew up in. I miss the easy access type life style of living in the States and sometimes it is good to be the centre of things. Oh, and I miss only having to remember one way of spelling the same dang word. For example, I could write color and not feel like I really should be spelling it colour.

That's a long time, luv. I'd be really interested in hearing about how you and Marc met and everything sometime, but I understand if you'd rather not talk about it. Big hugs, I know this is probably a day of reflection for you.

Oh yeah, to answer the question...
I think the riskiest thing I've done lately was splitting up with my husband, but my family is a lot healthier now, so I'm glad I did it, as scary as it was.

Good luck...moving somewhere new is a lot of work but worth it if you want it badly enough. Marc and I considered moving to Canada at one point. I would stil do it but not just yet. We fell in love with London, Ontario for a while..I think we just thought it was cute the it had its own Thames.
