obscenitycrimes.org / Morality in Media

Found this in another thread, but I think it deserves a thread of its own.

http://www.obscenitycrimes.org/

"A resource for educating the public and for reporting possible violations of internet obscenity laws."

This, folks, comes from the same place that archaic 2257 paperwork regulations and the move to force webmasters into .xxx. What we have here is a group of self-professed internet police with a large amount of political influence. Part of the Morality in Media movement, this site caters toward the religious right, and others who don't respect first amendment rights of webmasters or consenting adults looking for adult materials.

Just look at their platform:
Quote:
Our purpose here is to provide a brief overview of what constitutionally can be done to combat illegal hardcore pornography (obscenity) and "sexually oriented businesses" in your community and to make you aware of resources available from Morality in Media.

Sale of obscene material in your community will stop if Federal and State obscenity laws are enforced vigorously.
Quote:
We, of course, recognize that the consumption of pornography or the participation in its production and distribution has always been regarded as sinful and thus harmful to the soul and our eternal salvation. This has been the universal teaching of the Catholic Church.
This stuff is laughable on the surface, but the level of organization and committment that some of these groups have is alarming. Granted, none of this is news, but given the current discussion about 2257, .xxx, et al., it is certainly worth mentioning.

This is exactly why the FSC is needed to speak on our behalf. If these people had their way, we would all be out of business, and unfortunately, groups like this currently have better representation in congress than we do.

Exactly.

And consider that us (their opposition) is unorganized and divided. While they are fighting in washington, we argue as to whether or not 2257 is the end of the world, or we shout at each other for "selling out" and buying .xxx domains, or for not being "business savvy enough".

Imagine what adult, especially online adult, could get accomplished if there was some cohesiveness and direction.

Check their site, they oppose the .xxx domains because they say it will "legitimize" the industry.

I didn't say they favored it, I said it was that "type" of people. Plenty of those "concerned parent"/christian fanatics want to get all porn sites into .xxx so they can be censored out.

MiM is just a little more extreme, calling for complete eradication.

These people preach about love and compassion all day long, and then crusade against homosexuality.

They're hypocrites

100% accurate kp! It has nothing to do with Christianity or any other religeon.

That is just the cloak they have chosen to wrap themselves up in to gain, least in their eyes, respectibility. It's a perversion and abuse of any religeon.
