Question: How did yiu first start as a webmaster?

Just a thought I've had reading all these different post from people everywhere. You don't have to be specific or even honest just say what you want.

Did you get a business loan?
Get it from working a FT regular job?
Maybe you dated a hot porn chick who helped you get started.
Your parents loan the money.
Or your a friggin no budget genius!!

Bought my first computer. It cost money to host, to get image, etc.

Out of the numbers that I started with, there' s maybe 2 left of us from back in the day in 99.

Anyone starting today is about 5 years too late. Gold Rush came and went.

I started learning dreamweaver to improve my talent as a designer, and wanted to build a paysite.

In my research found a adult WM board and learned about TGPs, Freehosts, and Sponsors... I "borrowed" 10pics, got a freehost account, and put 2 banners on it. Submitted to all the tgps I could find which was about 20 at most, then made $800+ so off it over that 1st week. So I quit my job and the rest is history...

I started a nude celebrity paysite the summer of the 7th grade (I was 13).. GlobBill was the biller, stole all the content from other nude celebrity sites... made some nice money, but it all lasted about two months before i had lawsuit threats and my host shut me down lol. then got in to mainstream for a few years, did ok running a free host from my bedroom, lol... then went back into adult when i was around 15-16 and still here at 19.

I started my first online business in 1996. It's still alive. Later on, I worked at a venture capital firm/Internet "incubator" firm. My job was to find websites/online businesses and buy/develop them for the firm. In late 1999 to 2000 I discovered online adult marketing. I had my day job salary and my webmaster salary. This lasted until the Dot Bust hit in 2001. I became a full-time webmaster. I took on mainstream consulting jobs on the side from 2001 to 2003. In 2003, I went back to the Philippines, my birthplace, and went into outsourcing.

Five years late is better than never at all. I had people telling me the same thing 3 years ago. I may not be rich, but I do pretty decent. I have several friends that started around the same time I did and are doing very well for themselves. Proof that hard AND smart work can and will pay off.

I was looking for ways to make some extra money to indulge in my passion for diet pepsi and tim hortons donuts. I went to google and typed something along the lines of "do pornogprahic websites make money".

Well, the first site I clicked on had a link to a site called "gofuckyourself.com". It said GFY was noobie friendly, and was a great place to go and see what the adult industry was all about.

I tend to agree with this. There's a "Gold Rush" in online biz every 3 years. It moves that quickly. There's several going on right now... Just gotta keep an open mind.

As for mechanics re capital and how I started... I used free hosted pages since I focused on farming traffic sources. I didn't really have websites per se ...more like landing pages. I didn't even spend a penny on adult until I got my first adult domain in 2001. Before that, I was making money off free webpages and just farming the traffic sources.

If you have the right sources, even today, your only expenses would be a cheap hosting deal, a domain name, and your TIME. However, it all depends on how you market. Some are very capital intensive. Others are almost free.

I did freelance html work here and there, mostly mainstream stuff. I made a few free sites, namely a daily bikini site (which I ironically just shut down a few minutes ago...). Started talking to Steve Lightspeed through a site he had made, and we worked on a number of projects together and he let me use his hosting. Years later, after I graduated college, he offered me a job.

I could never go back.

Haha.. did I get in on a loan.. haha.. nope...

I got in on an $8 domain reg. and a $7 a month hosting plan. Built that into a $400 a month situation. I parlayed it into a $60 a month virtual account and 4 more domains. Turned it into $800 and got a $150 dedicated. Got a few more domains and branched out on what I was doing. Got a trade script for the TGP and a $200 thumbs script. Moved into $1800 a month and got a better $225 server and 2 more tgp scripts and trade scripts. $2500 I went into SEO and made $4000 a month... after some fucking around I got it to $5500 a month and kept moving the shit up.. Now I am at $8000 a month and keep working.. at about 20K a month I will be taking a lot of time off and then come back and move it up some more.

I started from practically zero budget. Sure, i had some money left over from a student grant and shit but I blew a whole load on fucking stupid businesses like a dumb chat community and stocks which hit zero during the dot com crash. I made a huge recovery in 2003. That time i really did start from scratch, second time over.

As a part of my job back in the early 90's I did CAD engineering. The company grew and we hired engineers, leaving me free to work on other issues.
I missed computers and hired a consultant to come in and teach me basic html.We already had servers and 3 T'1s so when it came time to actually build that *first page* the consultant asked me what I liked.
It was either going to be about sportscars or babes in bikini's.
The rest is history
