EXTREMEPAYCHECKS JOHN, re: Model IDs being shared with affiliates.

No matter what people think of me, I try to do what's right. Sometimes I speak out too harshly. Well, more than sometimes. My outbursts have become well known around here.

But when I owe someone an apology... I apologize. Even if it hurts to do so, which it does in this case. I called Extreme Paychecks pond scum for their position on giving out model IDs. Amongst other things.

First of all, I want everyone to know something. As I told Extreme John on ICQ:

"I just really feel for these girls. I deal with them on a daily basis and I've had some that have been 'found out'. They went through hell. Whether they signed up for it or not, it breaks any normal person's heart to see it when it happens. It's worse than going through a divorce, which I've had to do.

More will now be 'found out' and some may be harmed. I'm doing everything I can to stop that from happening."

I really think these new laws can potentially cause serious harm for models. But as I was thinking while sitting on the throne earlier today (I know, I know... you like that visual don't ya?), well... I'll let this ICQ conversation with John tell the story. I basically ICQ'd him and told him there was something I needed to tell him. Here's the conversation:

DonovanPhillips [3:20 PM]:
Here's the thing: Ounique.com and sites like it have been providing IDs for years. In fact, almost 4 years ago I sent them 12 sets of photos which is how I found out.

Extreme John [3:23 PM]:
no shit huh.... small world right..

Extreme John [3:23 PM]:
thank you.

DonovanPhillips [3:24 PM]:
I would feel like a hypocrite if I didn't point it out to you when it came to mind. I thought of it earlier today and told (an unnamed friend of mine) "Don't you think I'd be a hypocrite if..."

Extreme John [3:25 PM]:
Haha it's all good man, trust me your a rare bird, many people wouldnt have said a word.

DonovanPhillips [3:25 PM]:
I'd be willing to write a post about it if you'd like. I did, after all, flame the shit out of you.

Extreme John [3:28 PM]:
I appreciate that bro, thats your call and would be a very nice gesture on your part, but I dont expect you to do anything, youve already done more than most would have.

DonovanPhillips [3:31 PM]:
writing it now.

DonovanPhillips [3:31 PM]:
it's the right thing to do.

Extreme John [3:32 PM]:
Well thank you man I have a ton of respect for someone that can goes as far as to admit something that no one would have known about honestly, than to take it one step further shows your true character send me the thread once you write it.

I will also tell you guys this: I still don't like the idea of every random affiliate having model IDs. But this thread had to be written. It's the right thing to do.

As for me? I will STILL refuse to give out model IDs to affiliates. I want to do everything possible to protect my models. This law sucks and I hope things change.

But to John and Chris over at Extreme Paychecks, "I apologize. Sincerely."

Thanks man, like I said I didnt expect you to do anything. I also have said to you probably 100x now as well that I respect your position and the decision you have made to do whatever it is that you do. In the same respect I hope you see the reason behind why Extreme made the choice it made, ofcourse Im not expecting you to like it or "Endorse" it in any way.

I hope that every affiliate world wide will realize that the decisions and Statements being released by sponsors up to this point and moving forward are not based on personal opinion or renegade decisions, they are based on weeks of discussions, meetings, phone confrences and anything else you can think of, as you, I and everyone else have said "This shit just sucks". But it's reality.

Good for you making this post. All I can say in response to any person upset about programs giving out ID's:

We are only obeying the law. This was not our decision, nor is it something that any of us would like to do. Don't be upset that companies are forced to do this.

It's just the right thing to do. I publicly flamed them so my apology needed to be public too.

I don't think anyone is being forced to give out model info, as evidenced by the large number of sites and programs refusing to do so.

I would hope that the sites and programs which do decide to provide model info to anyone that signs up for their affiliate program or purchases photos/videos from them would have the courtesy to at least notify the models that this is what they will do, and make sure that any future models they work with understand that they intend to provide anyone with an e-mail address or a few bucks in their pocket with the model's personal information.

Too bad this industry can't self-regulate itself so that there is a level playing field, and so that the talent is treated with the same courtesy and respect that we all would expect.

The ideal situation would be one where the government allows us to create an industry model database which would be an independent, trusted third part that stores all model 2257 data. That independent third party could be used as a 2257 contact for all adult performers. The government could have access when legally necessary and model info wouldn't need to be spread everywhere.

Each model could have a unique ID on that system.

I can see something like this being permitted by the government if they're sued a time or two.

I am inclined to agree with you on this one, perhaps not on the specifics (it would need to be tweaked), but in principal.

There ought to be a porn summit (away from the conventions) that is dedicated to hammering out some guidelines and principals that might be acceptable to the industry and government alike, as well as developing uniform record keeping forms/systems that will keep the government from being able to seize computers, etc. to view the info at their leisure.

I have one external hard drive labeled 2257 Info - if the DOJ wants to take it with them, I have the info backed up elsewhere; they don't need my other computers, or computers with anything other than 2257 info. Likewise, all of my 2557 is kept seperate from everything else having to do with my business - the inspections are supposed to be limited in scope and I intend to keep it that way.

I'm fully aware that there are some in the industry that like to be daredevils and moon the government at every opportunity. However, most other regulated industries have come to a point where they recognize that it is in their own best interest to organize in order to advocate for, and try and maintain what is in their best interest.

Sadly, it does not appear that we are anywhere near that yet. It's too bad if it takes several people being arrested, companies shut down, or models hurt, in order for some people to face the facts and take appropriate action to strengthen our industry's position.

You couldnt have nailed that down any better in my opinion.

The fact remains that although it may not feel like it the Online Adult Entertainment Industry is still very young, it's come a long long way from when it all began but it has a long long way to go. It's a baby growing (painfully) into adult hood, and one day when this 2257 law falls (not soon enough), and the numerous other things continue to change around us, we will all learn and continue to grow and before your know it it will be an Adult at which time even through healthy competition, disputes, bullshit and whatever else we are all consistant in being united because power is in numbers, we can be an amazing powerhouse in Numbers as in #'s not to mention as in $'s when combined to fight or deal with changes that effect everyone's well being.
