WTF is there to do about all the galleries and shit people put up long ago and forgot about? Are freehosts going to end up closing? Anyone know?

You would be responsible for any content you personally uploaded / published. By defninition, freehosts SHOULD be exempt as they are hosting service providers.
That said, don't quote me, but I think freehost operators are going to see some good times again ;)
