good luck with your new plan, hope it works out for ya :thumbsup

Thats a tuff one. I would find some kind of an escrow company to use if I were you. that way, you both have a way to appeal.
|
I won't pay a designer upfront, or a content producer.
Been there, done that, had them disappear on me the same way your clients seem to disappear on you. I've also found that with C.O.D. I get my stuff much faster and getting changes/tweaks done is no problem |
Hey man..I understand exactly where you are coming from and glad you are taking this approach.
My projects are kind of up in the air right now...busy on so many other things but I will still be getting them done using you :) And I always like to pay up front 100% |

Just curious what your policy is on clients that aren't happy with the results? Do you just base things on time you've spent on things?
:) Matt |

And you know I always pay promptly once my project has been delivered |
Toomany assholes here.

Yeah you and I never had issues you always paid promptly and were good for return biz :) |
Good decission dude.

So if you charge me 150% upfront do I get a little extra on the "back end"? :Graucho |

I offer changes free of charge but I can only do so much . There are times where some people just arent happy . Lets take a recent example : Guy emails for a toon character of himself , I quote $259 for the toon and header etc . I get details after this payment and there is another character in the description , but I'm a nice guy so I figuire fuck it I'll do it for him anyway . Show client and he doesnt like it totally , does but sorta needs some changes , So I change it a few times and the client still doesnt like it , At this point I turn around and pay my guest toonist Scott to do the toon , I pay him $180 and he does Not one , but two versions of the toon and the client still wasnt happy and wants a refund Now this is where I have done my own 5-6 hours work originally , plus revisions THEN I paid $180 to get a toon done by Scott and the guy isnt happy . So I've clearly earned my money . Even lost some in that case all in an attempt to please the unpleasable. |

good policy, but like someone else pointed out. There have been a few occasions where Ive paid and never heard from the designer after that....
its a 2 way street, youve got a great reputation in the biz, I wouldnt mind 1 bit paying upfront, Ive always offered to do so. :thumbsup |
smart move
|
totally agree...
|
I ausually have a pay now, then I work policy. I don;t care who it is. however, I have seen myself do some work for people and get paid once finished. The only people I let that happen with are people that I know would be easy to ruin their biz overnight. Of course, if it's just some joe blow newbie, ruining him is easy, but would he care? He can start over with a new name easily enough. He would be made ot pay in full upront.

I can understand your frustration..fucking lamers
|
Does this have anything to do with not being able to get a hold of Lens being the straw that broke the camel's back?
|
I do programming on a contract basis, and let me tell you, the mainstream customers are slow pay too. I have a few good ones that understand I'm no big corporation who can float them for 90 days.
Otherwise, if I'm not paid, I'll have my wife call as my "office manager" and "encourage" them to pay when she's got her PMS. :1orglaugh :1orglaugh :1orglaugh Works every fuckin' time like a dream. Never lost a customer either, 'cause I do good work and it's not me calling them up like Tony Soprano the way the wife on PMS does. Good cop - Bad cop. My customers love me. :winkwink: |
nice.. hope everything goes well for you

Hey man, you're on point with this. I've done work with MachineGunKelly, he's professional, does great work.
All the best to you... |
I would NEVER do any work for an adult webmaster without payment up front. That's just the way it is in this industry.
|
sounds like a plan, good luck
|
The client I am referring to is mainstream, small privately owned local manufacturing company.
They make a great product and stand to make a lot once online, but they can't seem to get their shit together...so the site sits on my dev server. |

smart move man, fucking deadbeats everywhere.

Do what you gotta do man. It's a shame that so many of these so called "ballers" skip out on payments.
|
i need a design done.
start working on it now and I will mail you a check some time this week. thanks! |

As a previous designer years ago, I fully support you. I did this my 2nd year into design, continued for 4 years after. If you have the portfolio to back it up, people don't mind. Escrow is also the best way to do that, usually.
