Not just in 2004. It went from 1,500,000 in 2001 to 4,000,000 in 2005

I remember celebrating a new milestone every year, so it's not a fast growth just this year, we had that every year. Why? The only reason I can think of, is the fact that I started reviewing here in 2001

here is the deal, a top gallery spot costs $650. If you want to have a banner or something on there it will probably cost you a couple of 1000 for a month....

You can't compare the two types of traffic. Though I would say most hi volume TGP's are really leaving a load of advertising cash on the table every day by not selling their traffic to mainstream advertisers that don't mind adult.
